OK, so with the Who playing this year I think we are now officially done with the 60s and 70s bands. How about embracing the 80s in the 10s.
How about 12 minutes of Metallica - how would you like to see a 12 minute run of Sandman, For Whom the Bells Toll, Fuel and Masters of Puppets. Granted 12 minutes is usually one song for Metallica but it would be great
what would be your 12 minute band/song set you would like to see

THE WHO should be good this year as well.
maybe U2, not sure what 80's or 90's band could pull a crowd for the superbowl

MAY 7--After a four-month investigation, London police today cleared Pete Townshend of kiddie porn charges. But the rock star will still spend five years on a U.K. register of sex offenders because the co-founder of The Who visited a web site containing child porn images. Townshend was nabbed in January on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children, though no such photos were found following a search of his home and computer. At the time of his arrest, Townshend admitted using his credit card to visit a web site offering child porn, but told cops he was just conducting research. Along with being placed on the sex offender registry, the performer had to submit a DNA sample to police and have his fingerprints and mug shot taken. As part of his "research project," Townshend drafted the below six-page treatise on the easy availability of child pornography on the Internet. So easy, in fact, that Townshend, 57, wrote that he accidentally discovered a photo of a two-year-old boy being raped when he typed the words "Russia," "orphanages," and "boys" into a search engine. Townshend claimed that he reached for his telephone and "intended to call the police and take them through the process I had stumbled upon--and bring the pornographers involved to [jail]," but that he decided not to contact authorities after discussing the issue with an attorney. Townshend's paper, which he once posted on his official web site, also notes that the "pathway to 'free' paedophilic imagery is--as it were--laid out like a free line of cocaine at a decadent party: only the strong willed or terminally uncurious can resist." In the January 2002 porn treatise, Townshend notes that since 1997 he has been working on "some kind of document" relating to Internet porn, but that he feared being arrested by police who were on a "witch hunt" to catch anyone who visited illicit web pages: "Those vigilantes who research these pathways open themselves up to internet 'snoops.'"
The #1 NEED TO PLAY THE SUPER BOWL act is Pearl Jam. They've been going strong for 18 years now and I would wager have sold more rock albums than anyone else over that period. I'm honestly struggling to find someone else. I think The White Stripes would put on a hell of a show, but no one over the age of 35 listens to them. I suppose Green Day at this point could play it too. But neither PJ or GD could have played the SB in 1996-97 when they were at their biggest.

In truth, I can't stand the SB halftime shows. It doesn't matter to me who's on, since I spend that looooooooong break away from the TV.
I don't think that bands from the 80s are considered young any more - well perhaps for me but I'm old.
Would love to see Metallica, Van Halen, Bon Jovi... just no more 60s and 70s bands please.
Or maybe George Strait
Edited to add:
My absolute favorite would be Van Halen (Hagar)

True. I'm just sayin' Van Halen would require either Sammy or David Lee Roth, and Sammy is much better IMHO, and he has more left in him than Roth does.

Most kids on my floor are actually quite excited about this show.

I have to disagree. I saw them in 2007 with Roth and they were awesome. You cant beat the originals.

Your right! The Who are tooo old to do their own songs justice. It was sad. They were really good back in the 60's and 70's.
I don't know any good acts coming out of the 80's, but there must have been something.
See, if nothing else, I can say that Grote and the Dimeman agreed on something on the PSA board.
BTW, I do like those dimes in your sig line...are they PCGS graded?

1. The Who were 100% live. Bad notes and off key and all. Alot of previous acts, including Springsteen have used backing tapes, prerecorded vocals, etc. They wanted to do it 100% live and to me they sounded like I expected. If they would have sounded just like their records then to me it would have been a fake rip off.
2. Roger sounded fine, Pete was flat in the vocals. Roger even got his patented scream out. Pete however did rip it up on some solos and for a guy using a Strat he sounded good .
3. We had an 80s act last year with Prince. Tom Petty was mostly an 80s act.
4. What about KISS? They seem to be tamed to the point they could pull it off.
5. I agree next year will be country but I don't know who, most likely Faith but I can see them doing a trio with Faith, Carrie and Taylor Swift. Kenny Chesney would also be on the list.
6. I predict Jimmy Buffet will do it at some point, maybe after the Eagles.
With that said, I think VH or Kiss would be excellent choices for halftime in the future.

Funny, I said the same 2 bands, The Eagles or Fleetwood Mac. Please, NO COUNTRY MUSIC!!!
i assume you mean the TV crowd, cause the drunk fans in the seats are going anywhere lol
TV folks arent switching the channel either. Let Metallica rock out, or Pearl Jam or u2

According to Glen Frey the Eagles are a Rock/Country/Satanic/Rythem and Blues band so you would get a little of everthing with them.
Red Barchetta anyone?

AGREED.
And yes it was a shame anthony is done with the band. It still was great to see Roth back and doing his acrobatic moves on stage. Looking forward to their new album whenever it comes out. The new Kiss album is top notch.
How about Devo, Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Boy George, Ozzy Osbourne, Ted Nugent and Little Richard together on the same stage performing a montage of their greatest hits together
Actually, if you get the right groups together this concept works out pretty well.
Way back in 1975 I went to a concert where The Beach Boys, Chicago and Elton John played. Elton John was a surprise addition who landed behind the stage in a helicoptor while The Beach Boys and Chicago had been playing together, alternating between hits songs of each group. Elton John then appeared on stage, taking lead vocals while both The Beach Boys and Chicago started to play Elton John's hit songs. Then all three performed spent the rest of the concert switching back and forth between each other's hit songs.
The concert lasted for hours. It was great, being held in a football stadium that seated around 40-50K
