Looking for some help/advice about a high $$$ auction and if it looks legit

I am watching an item on Ebay that should end at or around $500.00 (which is high value to me). It is a PSA 7 graded gretzky rookie link. What is troubling me is that the same card (exact same card) ended here ended gretzky the high bidder of it is not the seller of it now. I have looked through the current sellers auctions and am not sure if I should trust this auction or not. I have already contacted the seller asking for them to send me nice large scans of the front and back so I can see it better but have yet to hear back from them

So what are your thoughts? Is this legit?

Thanks!

Mathew, that's a nice looking/centered 7. I would be suspicious too and don't know what to make of this auction...hopefully someone else will chime in.

    a) could be buyer's remorse, and he is re-listing the card

    b) maybe it arrived to him looking suspicious/not really "7 worthy" ...could be a reason for not providing larger scans.

    c) scam...probably not due to his feedback.

I know 500 is a lot...but with 8's selling for under1,000...might be better putting money aside and going that route later. There has also been a steady instability in Gretzky's PSA 9 OPC rookie according to VCP prices, doesn't look like it is a sound investment..7's and 8's however, I don't know.

Personally on this auction I'd pass even though it's a nice looking 7.

I hear what you mean about the difference between an 8 and a 7 but it will be a while before I could justify spending 1K on a single card. I figure that this 7 will do me nicely until that time.

anymore help out there on if this auction is legit? The feedback score of the buyer from the closed auction doesn't match the current sellers.

The most plausible reason could be that the buyer bought the card hoping for a bump, found the corner crease limiting it to a PSA 7 and opted to off the card through another eBay ID or account. This is somewhat common with a few eBay buyers/sellers that are known to bid VERY HIGH on select cards in the hopes that they can get or "create" the bump. Oft times, they find that they can't and they are returned to eBay through one of a few select ID's and sell for a significant loss... This may be the case with this card or it may not...

    Seller looks very legit.

Many users have 2 accounts (1 for buying and 1 for selling).

Simply ask him why he is selling it so quickly (doubt that should offend him)
