is autographing the outside of a PSA case a good idea? #2

Sorry for the 2 threads on same topic...

I plan on sending in 3 awesome 1 of a kind Nolan Ryan packs to his foundation ($35/each; 16 weeks) for him to sign on the outside of the PSA case.

I have 3 PSA packs..
1977 Topps WAX pack w/Ryan showing face out (clearly) on back PSA 8
1980 Topps cello Ryan front and back PSA 9
1982 Topps cello Ryan front and back PSA 8

I am going to be sending them in for him to sign in Sharpie on the outside like I have for Gary Carter and Keith Hernandez RC's, they look awesome!

These will truly be 1 of 1 and if this hobby is all about supply and demand, I gotta say I can't go wrong, right?

Thank you for any input....

Personally, I wouldn't like it, but if you are getting it for your own collection and you like it, then go for it. Cards are easy to crack out, and if it's not a really tough 9 or 10 or a very low pop vintage card, then I'd pop it out and get it signed, and then send it to be reslabbed.

What card are you thinking about?

  • thanks guys!

I posted 2 of these threads by accident, i explained it in the other one.

    They are PACKS!

How do I delete this thread and keep the other one?

    Thanks!

I don't care for them, but to each their own. If you like them, go ahead and get more signed.

To remove the other thread, change the title to DELETE ME, and it will likely disappear in the next 24 hrs.

    Muggy,

I remember we spoke about this a few years ago. I personally do not like it and I think I am in the majority. But if you are doing it for your own collection and plan on displaying them, GO FOR IT!

    Thanks Doug,

I gotta do it, it just looks so cool and such a rare, collectable piece...

Stay tuned, I'll show it to you in approx 16 weeks...

    Hi Mugsy

Personally, I don't like the idea of signing the holder - don't care for how it looks - and, it could smudge and now instead of a sig, ya got a smudge.

  • Gotta ask yourself where the value is at. If the value is in the pack grade then I'd leave it as is and get a new pack to get signed and slabbed. Just my opinion.

I don't like the way they look when they are on the case.

Easy solution- get Nolan to sign the slab, and then have the slab slabbed.

I'm an autographed card collector and a unopened pack with stars on the top collector, and I've never thought about getting a pack signed. It's your cards and $ though, so if you want to get the packs slabbed and have the case signed, more power to you.

If I was to do it I'd place one of those avery labels on the slab and ask that he sign it there.

Just signing the slab would invite trouble. (Smudging)

With the label he could use a ballpoint pen.

    Just a thought.
