USC fires STUDENT MANAGER over ref technical foul
The reason I'm bringing this up is because as you may or may not be aware, I was a student manager myself at the high school level (baseball 1998-99, football 1998); I didn't get any technicals though
Anyway, when I first saw this, I thought the student manager most definitely deserved to be fired, but now I'm not so sure. One, it seems like a first offense (he'd been at the job for three years) and second, I don't see players getting booted off the team over one technical; shoot they've stayed on the team for far worse! Perhaps a one-two game suspension would've been more appropriate? Then again, I wonder if the coach actually fired the student manager out of the manager's own best interest, as it's perceived (rightfully or wrongly) that his technical cost USC the game. Thus, it's quite possible his teammates would've shunned him or worse had he been allowed to stay.
