Ever misplace/lose a valuable coin or medal?

Over the years I've lost/misplaced these coins AT LEAST, possibly more if I sat down
and did a complete inventory....

A full roll of 1935 Canada Dollars.....A 1962 PL 66 Heavy Cameo Dollar that I was going to send
in for regrade.....A 1964 "Genuine" MS dollar that would easily be 65, probably 66, that I was
going to send to NGC for PVC removal......An entire book of State Duck Stamps with some
stamps worth several hundred dollars inside.

This is going all the way back to about 1980 but the two dollars I was going to send
in and the State Duck Stamp book were recent.

I've also "lost" probably a dozen others but finally located them after a frantic "tear up
the place :+)" search.

It takes a while for a loss like that to heal over; even when you rationalize that you'll
"probably" find it eventually-for me at least.

Anybody else?
No,no- the kids and the cat are all right honey.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.

  • Nothing really lost, but I had, what I though was a friend at the time, take a 1912 S Lib. 5c PCGS 64 and an 1871 S $20 NGC 58 (with what appeared to be the base of a 1 underneath the second 1 in the date) from my safe (about 5 years ago). The worst part about it was that he was also an active member of these boards for a time. Just goes to show ya...

Edited to add; I know it was him because he was the only one that used to have any access to where my safe was and I usually kept it open while he was visiting. My bad! image

  • While I was in college, my coke-head cousin was staying with my parents, and when I got home my 1908-S Indian Head Cent had been replaced in the book with a 1903, and a error struck 1964 Jefferson Nickel (reverse was copper) had disappeared - never found. My guess is anything that would fetch him more than a couple dollars was sold in order to buy cocaine.

In 1974 I ordered and received one of the Nixon Carson City silver dollars.

I still have the box and the certificate (signed by Richard Nixon), but I can not find the coin.

It was probably lost in a move.

The certificate does not have the date so I do not know what the date on the coin was.

Most likely I did but I don't know that I did.

Back in 1999 I received a 1670 Bristol Farthing token from a seller in the UK on the day I had to leave in a hurry for a family emergency. I remember going and getting the mail, briefly looking at the piece, putting it back in the envelope then about an hour later I got a call and had to drive 900 miles away and don't remember what ever happened to the envelope with the coin in it. As best as I can reconstruct I must have thrown it in the trash by mistake, thinking the envelope was empty.

I've lost plenty of things but not any coins. I theorize it's because I have not been collecting long enough (Spring 2008).

I have FOUND coins in my collection my records showed me as not having, however.

Last year I temporarily misplaced my gold Weyl uniface penny for about a month. Thankfully I am so untidy there was no danger of it having been put in the bin.image

OTOH I have found several things, even recently that I have no memory of buying - kind of like little surprises.

I recall that a certain gent over on the Lite Side accidentally sent a Stella to the landfill. I can't remember who.
