My latest gold addition from early France!!
Ecu d'or au Porcepic
ND (1498-1515) King Louis XII
Lyon Mint
NGC AU58
The porcupine was the symbol of King Louis XII (Father of the People), although docile in nature, the porcupine epitomized power and ferocity in battle - and thought to be able to hurl its quills and wound an enemy at a distance or stab selectively at close range.

I've seen a few that were as wavy as a potato chip but yours looks perfect.
Congratulations.

- One may ask ....How does one know what mint this coin was struck since no specific mint mark or symbol is found on the coin??
Notice on the reverse the dot or "pellet" just below the legend at 5:00. It is below the "S", which is the 12th letter in the legend. That designates the mint as Lyon !!
- Also through French records this coin's "actual" strike date can be traced to November 19, 1507 !! I was a little disappointed because I could not pinpoint the actual time of day ... jj
When are you going to produce a glossy full color book? You already have much of the material, including both coins and interesting documentation.

I'm still acquiring coins, researching for information on the coins, and working on photographing the coins !!
Maybe one day soon .... that would be a highlight for me !! I thinking when I get to 100 coins might be the right time ... still got a ways to go !!
