So...is 10 days enough time to wait for a card to arrive before filing an Ebay claim?

Now before you decide...here are the facts.

I am the seller of the item. So here goes.

The auction ended. I sent an invoice. 4 days later the buyer paid. They chose the cheaper shipping method ($3.00). I shipped the item the next day and sprung for the more expensive method with tracking and insurance (at a cost of $12.00 meaning 9 came from my pocket) as the card was valued over $125.00 and i figure better safe than sorry. I then sent an email from Paypal the day the item was shipped with the tracking info and then updated the Ebay transaction as shipped. I then heard nothing from the buyer until today when they opened the Ebay claim.

Oh...and two last things.

1. I live in Canada and the item is going to the US.
2. The buyer is a board member.

any thoughts?

Mathew , last October , I received my fastest Canadian shipment in 5 days. Its not uncommon for items to take 2-3 weeks. Some people can wait , some can't.

About 4 years ago , a coin arrived 6 months after I paid. All the fireworks were over , as we had exchanged neutrals. It was a VERY nice coin , but it did finally make it.--- Sonny

It's hit and miss to and from Canada. The cards I sent you for the group sub arrived quickly, yet I sold some in December which took 3 and a half weeks to reach the buyer in Ontario. The buyer is probably just scared of being out $125, but IMO he should wait about 3 weeks before filing claims.

    good luck man!

For sure. I had a blast doing it.

Oh and just to clarify. I am the seller in this situation and I am the one living in Canada. I have had some luck with shipping to the US were an item takes days and other times over a month. That is why I always send any item over $70.00 with tracking and insurance even if I have to pay the difference.

I would wait 30-days, before filing such a claim.

    I am somewhat patient, though.

    .........

I have ordered stuff from Canada that was rcd in 3-days.

I have ordered stuff from Canada that was rcd in 4-weeks+.

I understand he is scared but it would have been nice to have heard from him at some point in time.

I recently bought some cards from JasonsSportscards? They are in Canada, well they were about $50 worth of cards and he charged me $3 to ship Regular Mail- no sig no nothing and I got them in 4 Days. I live near Boston btw.
  • If you shipped the item the next day, and provided a tracking number..... I don't know what more the buyer could possibly expect. You don't control the mail.

In this case the buyer should have waited until he could determine beyond a reasonable doubt that the PO wasn't going to get it to him. Ten days, from Canada to the US, is clearly not long enough to make that determination.

The fact that the buyer is a board member is not relevant to the discussion, IMO.

I find regular mail is MUCH faster than when I send things with tracking and insurance. It usually about 3 to 4x faster however there is no tracking and therefore no protection for me.

    True it isn't.

I do mention it as I have had dealing with them in the past without a hitch and just would have expected a bit more from them as a result of both our past dealings and the shared board.

    I disagree.

There is - in general - no reason to panic to the point of filing
a PP-claim, IF the buyer can easily contact the seller through
    this board before so filing.

In a modified-Hasidic "tradition," a seller might scam another
board member once, but that seller is unlikely to get a chance
to do it twice. Most folks here understand that and behave
    accordingly.

    I don't know how it is Canada-U.S.
but U.S.-Canada, it cannot be tracked once it leaves the U.S., at least that is what my PO guy told me.
Something about how Canada still delivers its mail on horseback. No room for those cumbersome scanning machines in the saddlebags.

USPS Express Mail International (EMI) is PayPal acceptable; items are "tracked" - if scanned regularly -
and the recipient signs upon receipt.

    Cost is just under $30.

Trying to climb the 1954-55 Topps Hockey ladder for the second time.

  • Canada to Usa and vice versa 3 to 5 weeks, just had a package I sent take 32 days to get to Canada, also just had a package sent to me from Ct. take 26 days to get to me. The mail screws up all the time.

I recently bought 15 cards from Maine to Ohio where I live. They were insured with tracking. Usually should take 4-7 days. This one took 3 weeks! I contacted the seller and they were very nice about giving the tracking number and lo and behold, they sat in New Hampshire for over a week. Don't know why, but that is sometimes what happens. Since you insured and added tracking then I think you are covered by Paypal. The buyer should give it time. I understand why they are nervous, but I bet it should be fine. You did your part. Hope this ends shortly.

I am waiting on something from canada that I bought on the 11th. paid $15 for shipping.
I emailed the seller to let him know I havent received it as of monday and I was a bit concerned
because I also received another card from canada purchased on the 18th
and received the 23rd ( btw $2.00 postage on that one )

I haven't heard back from the seller yet I am assuming he has the tracking info spending $15

I haven't filed a claim yet.. but it is getting close.. and the non response is making me annoyed..

What does the tracking number say? Make sure the buyer looks at the number, this is just a case of over anxiety.

Domestic mail can be slow too. I was cowinner of a contest from 41GoudeyGuy. His Large Flat Rate Priority Mail box took 1 day to travel across the U.S., and then 2 more months to travel less than 10 miles from the airport to the post office (sent to a P.O. Box, so it's not a carrier issue).

I don't bring it up to the seller on a card unless at least 3 weeks have elapsed, even on domestic shipping.

  • In oakesy25's situation, i have a major issue with the non response of the seller. I would file immediately. I have patience to wait for a package, but no patience when the seller does not respond...
