I don't think those A*B* variations have ever hit ebay. I have never pulled one in 20 years either (excluding the common Daryl Boston). I highly recommend listing them.

After reading this I went through my box of 91's and found several of the variations. So I might as well try to get them all. But was wondering if all the cards have the bold 40th logo? I also have 1 that I did not see posted(# 706 brad arnsberg it has a line through the P on the front). Is there a list of all the variations availible? Thanks.
Please do check out the list but I warn you, it's "ongoing" so it's not complete yet and may never truly be complete as variations continue to be discovered every year.
To answer your other question: Only the cards from A* and B* sheet received a bold 40th logo on back. There are occasional "partial-bold 40th" printing errors from other sheets (Rickey Henderson for example) but they are generally considered print-flaws and not essential to a master set.
And in regards to cards with lines through the lettering, 99% of the time, those are all printing errors due to the misalignment of the plates (black in the case of the lines/names). I will definitely not be including them in the ongoing checklist.
I have done every Topps baseball set, 1948 to 2011, and at least through 1994 ( an a little thereafter) tried to do any variation listed in SCD or included in the Registry for master sets ( and a lot of non listed stuff too), and I agree that 1991 has the most ridiculous conglomeration of errors/variations/print defect and oddities in the Topps line up

Agreed, those lines vary so much on every card, and every name vs line vs color you can't consider them at all.....
I looked at soo many and said it's a waste of time.

For anyone who may be interested, I'll have a nice lot of very rare 1991 Topps A*B* variations going up on eBay this weekend. I also have a lot of bold 40 backs where the red box surrounding the name is the same dark red color as the rest of the back. The A*B* backs are some of the rarest variations to come out of any Topps set. Please look for the listing and let me know if you have any questions. I'll also post more about what I know of the A*B* variations in this thread over the next few days.

The Morgan MGR card does appear to be very scarce. It's the only one that I've ever seen, and I have over 100 different Morgans. The Whitaker and Irvine variations appear to be extremely scarce as well.

Take a look at the "corrected" Morgans and you'll notice that Topps had a minor issue placing the added 1 in front. Some are placed high and some low.
I think that the Morgan can be added to the list as one of the toughest variations in the set. I think it's right up there with Whiten, Drabek, Hoiles, etc...
Also check your #59 Eric Yeldings. His 1987 BB's total is 12. This card can be found in 3 varieties with the '2' being partially clipped, hand-written, or perfectly normal.
Had a collecting first today, in all my years of collecting and opening packs I had never pulled a "blank back" card from a pack.
Was busting some 1991 Topps wax for fun and pulled a Carl Nichols (Catcher - Astros) with a blank back.
I realize not any value but to this point I had wondered if blanks fronts or backs were pulled from packs or were just otherwise obtained discarded product.

1991 Topps Blank backs are very difficult to find. There isn't the surplus of backdoored copies that you find of other years such as 1992. The most I've ever seen in one shot was a 50-60 different lot, which I bought and resold later. Since then, they seldom come up for sale. About six years ago, I pulled a blank back Mickey Hatcher from a rack box so I definitely understand the thrill!
Another wrinkle to the 1991 Topps Variation/Error list -
Going through this set recently noticed that some players have a dark spot or hashmark on the the "4" in the the "40 Years of Baseball" Logo. Most players have a corrected version but some do not. Most with corrected versions are equally divided in quanity between mark and corrected versions.
The other interesting aspect is that all of the players are on either the Tigers, Braves or Cardinals.
Curoius if someone can confirm whether these spots were fixed for factory or Tiffany sets or whther these marks appear on those cards as well?

Some goodies from a recent box bust. These came from a box of wax, included the A/B sheet "bold backs", the Keith Comstock Cubs Error, and there were no print coded errors (all cards had the correct designation -no blanks, *A*B or even *E*F).
