Saw this in an ebay listing, interesting way to approach feedback.

I dont sweat the stars or the feedback anymore, less than 1/2 even bother to leave feedback, good or bad, even when i leave it first.

  • I think they should drop the stars all together.

I agree, the stars are a waste of time. I just want to know if the seller/buyer is good or bad.

  • The stars are annoying. I confronted 2 buyers who left positive feedback and dinged my stars of high shipping when i actually lost money in shipping. They both replied back saying "i didnt know i left it"?

    It's a mighty nifty toon.

Sadly, its use in an EBAY listing is a TOS-violation and will result
in the listing being removed if reported/discovered.

The toon is considered DSR/FB manipulation.

EDIT ADD: "And, it may cause buyers to lose confidence in the
    venue and its sellers."

    ...............

Such toons or statements in a listing defeat/harm EBAY's ability to
reduce/eliminate listing-fee discounts granted to sellers that maintain
    high DSRs.

Pretty dumb cartoon, IMO. If a buyer felt like a seller deserved 4 stars or less, why would they leave no stars instead? To help out a seller that didn't give them good service, or overcharged for shipping? image

i think you missed the point

folks think 4 stars is GOOD feedback, its NOT. anything less than 5 stars hurts the seller.

I didn't miss the point. If you get 4 stars or less, then you probably deserve it. If people are giving you 4 stars on a regular basis, then you definitely deserve it. I'm a seller, and my stars are currently 5.0, 5.0, 5.0, and 4.9. Very few people are going to leave 4 stars (or less) if you do everything right (describe the item honestly, communicate well, package well, ship fast, and have a fair s/h charge).

    (Outline of April 2010 DSR-Changes)

    ............

    From brewsnews...........

    1. Buyers who purchase multiple items have multiple impact on a seller’s eligibility for Top Seller program. Top Seller eligibility scores are affected each and every time a buyer leaves low scores even if the items are all purchased on the same day by the same buyer.

    2. The 0.50% percentage of low DSR ratings that eBay is going to allow is based on the total number of units sold. So, for every 200 units sold a seller can receive only 1 low DSR rating. If one buyer purchases 4 items and leaves low DSR ratings for all of them, a seller must then sell 796 additional items to buyers who do NOT leave low DSR ratings.

    3. In summary, because of the way in which eBay is weighting the ratings that affect sellers eligibility into the Top Seller program, eBay considers buyers who purchase 3 items (for example) to be as “valuable” to the eBay system as 3 different buyers who each purchase one item.

Beginning April 2010 all PowerSellers (not just Top Sellers) will be graded based on the number of low DSR ratings (1s or 2s) received. All Powersellers can have no more than 1.00% low DSR ratings for “item as described” for transactions with U.S. buyers and on no more than 2.00% for communication, shipping time, and shipping and handling charges

So, beginning April 2010 all U.S. buyers who purchase multiple items from one seller will have an exponentially powerful effect on a seller’s standings on the eBay site.

One buyer who purchases 10 items from one seller and leaves low DSR ratings for the Item as Described rating will have to be offset by 990 other transactions where the buyer does not leave a low rating (a Top Seller has to have 1990 transactions without low ratings or else they would lose their Top Seller eligibility from one buyer who leaves 10 low DSR ratings)

    30

    ....................
    ...........................
    .................................

MOST buyers still think that 4-stars is a "good" rating, BECAUSE
EBAY tells buyers that 4-stars is a "good" rating.

I have a 4.7 rating for shipping cost.

I mail in a bubble mailer/top load, etc., for FREE, and have for more than a year.

So, apparently, some buyers believe I should be sending them a dollar for the honor of shipping them their items.

And that's why I went from 100 new items a week, to about 4.

It's ebay's way of getting sellers to try harder with less reward. They wont change it when it gives them an opportunity to get more fees from a seller regardless how much money they make ebay.

    PATHETIC!!!

Its no wonder thousands of sellers have left ebay in the last couple of years.

The stars are stupid.... Period. It wastes time from the feedback perspective and honestly, does anyone LOOK at the stars, NO, they look at FB, but even that has been perverted with the 12 month thing.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

    Hey Mlbfan2...or Newby !!

No, you may think you got the point, but sad to say you don't....Period. Ask most E-Bay users, strictly Buyers, what 4 Stars mean and the will tell you "That is what I leave when a Seller meets all his obligations 100% and does a great packaging job and gives free shipping, ect, just like I never leave 20% as a tip at a restaurant, if everything is perfect they get the standard 15% no more, no less."

This in turn hurts us Sellers because that is the way E-Bay system wants the system to work so they don't have to give any discounts back. I provide a Top notch product, service, super safe packaged, and ship my stuff without fail next day, and still get the occasional clown who gives me 3 or 4 stars. Truth be told I buy hundreds of items on e-bay and Never, I mean Never leave anything but bulk Feedback, the clowns who have time to leave detailed DSR's are the losers who need a life anyway.

Oh, wait a minute you are probably one of those...Oops !!

Perhaps you should read Storm's post and really try and understand it. But then again you are probably one of those weekend E-bays, sells 5 items a week and have been lucky that you don't deal with the Friggin' loonies that us high volume Dealers deal with day in and day out.

Lets see you get a few 3's and 4's for providing Everything Right, and then well see how you feel !!!

In closing, whatever Dude, next time, know what you speak of, or enjoy the taste of Foot !!!

I think I had a 4.8 rating for Description a while ago - that was when i sold only slabbed cards (have sold a few raw lots since then)...that cracked me up. Short of mailing it out to each interested party for a closer inspection, not sure what else I could have done.

  • I don't think shipping cost should even be listed. That's ebay way of making more money. It stops sellers from Buy It Now's listing items at $1.99 with $10.00 shipping. Ebay has to get there fees. I myself do NOT list items this way.

My bottom line is, if I feel shipping is to high I don't bid on the item. It's your choice.

I no longer do the stars.

Ditto... I normally only sell Graded (unless it is current insert carp).. And I got like at 4.8 for Items Described... I offer $2.50 shipping for all items won, and only get a 4.8 for shipping... I stopped playing the game.

In my opinion, the best way to ensure 5 stars is fast shipping. With the fast food world we live in, it seems if buyers can get their items quickly, they will tend to view the entire transaction in a positive light. A close second IMO is a quick response to any issues/questions.

addition: Neil, BTW, I agree with your post and think you're spot on with your comments
