Garbage Pail Kids

Does anyone on the forum collect these????

Comments

  • I did back in the mid eighties... got a big box of them somewhere...
  • Yes I do. I have all the series from the 2nd thru 6th. I like looking thru them every so often, when I was in second grade these things were like gold to us kids!

I have the complete second thru fifth series. I had them as a kid as well. I think I sold the fourth and fifth series on ebay a few years ago though.

I have a few in bad condition in a box somewhere form my childhood.
  • I don't collect Garbage Pail Kids, but I just picked up a bunch of 1988 Topps Baseball Sticker Cards with Garbage Pail Kids on the back of them. I don't know if Psa even grades them.
  • There is a new series of GPKs releasing soon by Topps.

I was just curious. I had a whole set from series 1-15. I even have several unopened packs. I sold the first few years on the bay, but now I need to figure out what to do with the rest. Keep them as childhood memories or sell them and fund some other collections.

unopend packs and boxes from series 1 sell really well.. not so sure about the other series.. i just sent a charred chad to psa to get slabbed.. i think it got a 6.. not really a blazer.. but its the only one from the 80s with my name.. so i figured id get it slabbed..

  • At one time I was trying to complete the first 2 series in PSA 9 or better. Second series 9's sell for about grading fees. However, 1st series can get kind of costly. Like most of my registry set adventures, I gave up.

I still have a set of them too. I dont remember what series though. I would go pull them out but they are tucked away in a chest in the basement, buried under a bunch of carp.
  • Put together the first two series as a kid. Perhaps the only sets I completed as a kid and I am 99% sure the only cards I ever traded in elementary school.

Edit to add: None of me or my friends ever knew there were different variations on some/maybe most cards (1st series). I don't know GPKs that well...but I see a lot of variations in the first set on eBay.

One time I opened a pack that had Luke Puke, Foul Fernando AND Poopdeck Pete!

I know what you're all thinking...there's no way Poopdeck Pete could be in the same pack as Luke Puke and Foul Fernando based on the normal sequencing. But hey, what can I say? I guess I'm just lucky and got an extra card.

I just sold a large lot of series 2-5 that I picked up last summer at a garage sale. They sold much better than I expected.

For some reason my Brother and I liked to peel them, and stick them onto index cards. It kills me knowing that we had so many Series 1 that we ruined.

I have a special request -- if anyone has a Series 1 and/or Series 3 wrapper, I could use one of each for my collection. I was much too OLD to collect these myself ( image ). I nabbed these wrappers and dozens of other non-sport wrappers when my 3 kids were having fun. I just wish one of them would've enjoyed sports stuff as much as I do!

I'm too lazy to scan the 13 I have, so here are pics:

When they were really hot CBS news interviewed me in my store, the local

elementary school principle banned them and that brought out all the media.

Of course they made me look bad. I couldn't buy that type of advertising :-)

Some of the later series are quite scarce.

They have many variations too. Different backs etc.

Someone has a web site devoted to it.

    Good for you.

A lot of us on the boards still have these cards including the new revived series 1, 2, 3, etc.... (yes, they did make a come back). Post on the Non-Sports Card Forum and enjoy this hobby with others.

I still have some of the cards from my childhood which were not in the best of condition because of the way they were handled and traded away, but in later series, I have learned its nice to leave some mint and untouched and those I have as well. A few 2nd series, lots of 3rd, and when we get to the 4th and maybe 5th, that's when they remained mint (it was also the time I got out of elementary school).

Embarrassed to say that I now have a storage unit full of non-sports cards image

I definitely have a comic box full of wrappers that include tons of GPK's

I should be able to hook you up with a 1st and 3rd series wrapper gratis

I believe the 3rd series has variations with and w/out the 25cent logos?

I'll try and check today and will let you know Mike

Thanks, Bill! From image 2 image , maybe I could trade you something else?? Let me know what you're on the lookout for.

In the meantime I'm going to copy my pics of the wrappers to the non-sports card forum if they're not already there...
