I always have trouble avoiding the use of hyperbole when commenting on Cacheman's skills and this is probably another case.

All too often on other sites a cacophonous avalanche of text and links have to be waded through before arriving at the subject matter.

Not here; this gallery is superbly presented, with a minimum of distractions and an elegance and ease of use I hope everyone will appreciate.
The photography is nonpareil and the overall look gorgeous.

Congratulations my man, a beautiful job.image

One question, had you considered "The medallic art of... as a title?

I can't say it any better .... Congratulations Cacheman!!
  • Very well done Cacheman. Many of these medals give an interesting insight into the feelings of the period. Only thing I might add is a 'back' or 'home' button on the left menus to get back to the main page. I'm looking forward to seeing this site expand as you fill in the coming soon pages.
    Very cool!

There is reason behind the madness Laurentyvan. Goetz did many other things that I just haven't had time to put up as yet; stamps, wax seals, jewelry, sculpture, etc. Hence the "artwork" image Also, once the real site goes up this splash screen and title will be banished and I'll probably be going with just "Karl Goetz".

Thanks Jim. Although not perfect, there is a link back to the home page at the bottom of each page...the copyright info is enabled to take you back. Unfortunately at this point, it takes you back but you are still within the same browser window. This will all be fixed when the real site goes up though. This time around I wanted to primarily get some text up which the gallery has been missing since day one. The galleries will no longer open in your browser but from within the site once I get it all figured out. Thanks for the input though. S

    Cacheman,

This depiction of WWI from the view of the Germans is marked to the highest degree of excellence. This is a work of resplendent brilliance, congratulations.

    Thanks guys.

A note: I have removed the links from the text on the Satirical sub-page. The only way to enter is by clicking on the marching boots at the bottom of the page. The links I had would require me to set up a mini-gallery for each link and it's just not worth the trouble. Again, this is just a temporary (I hope) set-up to kick myself in the butt to move on to a real web site and not just a splash screen and galleries. For instance, I'm just now reading up on creating vertical and horizontal cascading navagation buttons that will need to be placed on each web page. The learning curve is steep and the software changes so rapidly I may be doing nothing but futzing for eternity.

Great site, Scott, and a magnificent collection!
  • When these medals were announced to the forum, Cachman would give us the history and discription of each medal. When viewing them later, I missed the text. Thanks for allowing us to view them in the context of the time

    Thanks again,

A great looking site! I've been looking forward to it, glad to see it up! The links to other sites with related information is a nice touch.

    Just an FYI:

The simplest way to get the text links within the subgalleries to open the main page in the top level of the browser rather than within the frame is to add the parameter target="_top" to the link, e.g., <a href="/galleries/WWI/index.html" target="_top">© All Rights Reserved - www.kargoetz.com</a>

Note the underscore before the word top. That is important.

I like the clean design of the site.

unfortunately I didn't create these using CSS which means I'd need to edit all 175 pages one at a time. The only reason to go back to the home page would be to go to the other gallery which is going bye-bye shortly anyway. I'll need to deal with all of this when I build the actual web site.

    But thanks for the code...
