Well, apparently the 1825/2 B-1 Quarter is no longer a "major" variety...

I guess I should check my registry more often. I just logged in and my 1825 B-1 Quarter isn't in my Major Varieties set anymore. I guess PCGS has a "Complete Varieties" CBQ Set, so the B-1 got tossed over there...

Okay, rant over. Thank you.

  • Ya, I don't really like that idea of tossing it out of that set either. Its a seams to be important enough to me to stay there, but i guess PCGS changed their mind about it. Its the
    B-1 for crying out loud.

    I don't do the series so a "beginner's" question....

Aside from having bought something for the registry, what are the major points FOR including it as a major variety and/or what are the major reasons NOT to?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The B-1 variety is far more rare than the other two varieties of 1825 Bust Quarters.

PCGS probably took the B-1 out of the Basic set because it is sooooo expensive compared to the rest of the set, especially in AU or better. I have some very nice B-2s, but never owned a B-1.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • They took the B1 out of the Basic Set With Major Varieties, If you think it is possible they took it out because of its price in high grades then why the 1822 25/50? It doesn't make any sence to me.

I just got this e-mail from PCGS:

    Hi Ben,

The 1825/4/2 and 1825/4/(2) were combined into one slot in the Major Variety set because they are so similar. Your coin can be added to the existing spot.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

  • That is good customer service. A straightforward, helpful answer.

I am sure that it is my fault...as I made the case that there is really no 25/2, 25/3 or 25/3...they are all 25/4/2's.

The B-1 (formerly known as 25/2) is indeed much rarer than the B-2 or B-3 (which share an obverse).

Since my book came out PCGS has changed how they list the 1825's in the price guide as well.

    Sorry! image
