WILLIE MAYS - 1955 BOWMAN - cracked and resubbed.

Well .. the results are in. This was the card I put up about a month ago for everyone to guess what it should grade.

I also cracked and resubmitted the following
1949 HANK ARFT - LOOKS GREAT - must be a wrinkle I missed - ORIGINALLY "2" - New Slab - also a "2"
1964 KEN HARRELSON - ORIGINALLY 8(ST) - NO STAIN TO BE FOUND, so resubbed - Came back a straight "8"
1964 STAND-UP AARON - originally a "3" - came back a "5"

Kinda wants you to scratch your head a little.

    Very nice Doug

A 3.5 bump is just nuts!

I'm more inclined to believe this was a clerical error of some kind in the first place - that's just too much of a bump - or the grader came in with a hangover.

Nicely done Doug. I'd grade that Mays a 7 tho.

Just when I thought I've seen it all, here comes the Mays card. In all seriousness, you deserve a refund of your grading fees.
  • Very nice, congrats!

Not only that, how about someone hunt down the original grader and fire them. Come on that's ridiculous.

DrLou ... yes, I purchased it off eBay without a picture of the back ... I assumed there had to be SOMETHING wrong with the back. As you can tell, there is a little something wrong, but the front looks AWESOME, IMO. When I got the card in hand I KNEW that it HAD to bump to AT LEAST a 4, so I played the 'ole crack and resub game ... something I did only once before.

Got to love the consistancy here.
I'll agree on a refund or credit on grading fees. This is a joke. I think the graders have been pulling too many nite shifts at Home Depot.

Hmmmm, you bring your car in for body work... it is a ford.....the guy calls and tells you car is ready but gives you a 73 pinto... you tell him its the wrong car and then he brings you out a caddie.... this of course would never happen, so why do these grades change so much???? THEY ARE NOT PROVIDING THE SERVICE THEY CHARGE YOU FOR !!!!!!! OK, sorry for the rant.. I just keep seeing these problems you guys write about on these boards and these guys are just not getting thye job done.... I was under the impression more than one graded looked at these cards.... pretty soon they are going to put these companies out of business, but unfortunately they will land jobs at other companies... lets play baseball................3 strikes and you are out!!! lets grade the graders

DOUG, is it the stain on back thats keeping that Mays from being graded a PSA 7 or higher? The front looks easily NM, unless I am not picking up a dinged corner or something?

Matt ... I would have to say that stain is what is doing it. Front is quite nice!

I've got a couple of hundred '52 Bowmans that are slabbed with wax stains on the back like that or even worse. It's never been taken into account on the grade.
