Question for the mondern football collector

Hi there. My son is a huge Vikings fan. I want to buy him a couple of Adrian Peterson's cards, but don't know which cards of his are the better cards to collect. I only collect Hockey and Baseball cards and have no idea what is a fair price for Peterson's cards. I would like to get some of his rookie cards for my son, but don't know where to start. I looked on ebay, but wanted to get opinions on where to start. This isn't for future value, its just for my son (he is 6) with the hope he gets that collecting itch. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • I think Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome would be a good start. They are shiny which is key for a kid that age (I have a 5 yr old). I'm not sure of the price but I think there are plenty available, probably even some here on the board. Good luck!

Buy him a lot of Petersons that includes a few cheap rookies like Score and such. Young kids like to have multiples to compare and pick their favorites. You should be able to snag a nice mix of base, inserts and a few RCs.
  • You may want to check out sportlots as well, as sometimes deals can be found there.. Just search for Peterson and you will get a bunch..

  • I recommend you start with the Upper Deck Base set. You can buy some very affordable boxes, the Petersons in there look nice and there are many other rookies in that set. It'll prob be good fun to rip and organize. The only thing better is to buy unopened that comes with gum.

I agree. Unless you are going to get involved in the uber end signature rookies, I would stick with Bowman and Topps Chrome. You might venture into the refractor issues for a fair price. I might have a few 8.5's from BGS that I would be willing to trade. PM is you want me to go check. I also have the Beckett mag and Becket Graded Card investor that I would be happy to get you book prices. Most Peterson rookies on eBay have been going for about 50% of book as best as I can remember. I recently sold some Gem Mint Score rookies for about $6-8 a card. I would stay away from those in general but they are a nice cheap Gem Mint rookie.
