Canada Fossil $4 Dollar Coin Question

Does anyone know how long the series will be going?

It's almost impossible to know how long the Royal Canadian Mint will have a series go. Usually until they stop making their profit on it. My wife collected the Easter flower series. All of a sudden they stopped minting them with no advanced warning.

  • It was supposed to be a 4-year series, 2007-2010, but "by popular request," it was extended at least through 2011.

Anyone know where I can find the first year of issue and what it would cost me?

Have you tried Talisman coins? They keep a good stock of RCM issues--and are where I got my first-year of this series.

I just spoke with Talisman coins and I was very impressed with their level of service. I havent ordered yet, but if the phone call is any indication of the rest of their services I will be very happy.
  • The only number I've seen on the 2007 coin is $100 lately. I, unfortunately, procrastinated in 2008 and didn't get it when I could've for $40. I have only seen it for sale twice in the last year or so at that $100 level. Sigh.

For what it's worth, I have the three since then, though I've only had time to photograph two and they can be seen on the Canadian page of my coin website.

I have had very good luck dealing with http://www.gatewestcoin.com/ and http://www.colonialacres.com/home.shtml
Both of these dealers service is excellent and usually lower priced than Talisman.
