    I don't know...

Even when the guy says he is selling it as a reprint people still bid good money on it...Donato

Why do people bid on a Fake 1952 Topps #311 Mantle?

For the same reason some sellers try and sell counterfeit items as a reprint. $$$$$$$

Two primary reasons, in my opinion:

    1) Some people don't read descriptions or look at pictures very closely
    2) Wishful thinking. Hoping it is real even if the seller has identified it as NOT real

I am amazed at the amount of money people will still spend in such instances. It's one thing bidding on a wish and a prayer for a $2 card hoping it would be worth $10. But a '52 Mantle?

I see my suggestion either did not work or was not applied.

    Good for you.
  • WinPitcher hit it on the head.... I would say most people buy them so they can flip them as real. I have a handful of fake cards, Jordan rookie, Robinson rookie, 1933 Ruth, DiMaggio XCR and even a 1983 Mantle 52 reprint that was copied. Wow, a fake of a copy. In some cases, I got taken so I don't want to put those back in to circulation. I know i could get a decent amount for them even if i listed them as copies or fake. Besides, it's a neat little collection of cards I'll probably never have.

Maybe we should start a thread showing off your best counterfit cards. My Dimaggio is pretty good...

    3) buy them, take them down to their local auction house, have them advertise them with a photo, snag the old timers who do not know about fakes and reap the rewards,,,, probably why you get alot of the sellers who buy them there , then list them on ebay with a lame story like, "my grandfather had these when he was a kid" story,,, just saying,,, bj
