I make make a much larger scan of any of these if they look particulary interest or valuable, just trying to figure out what they are!

I'll leave the ones with western lettering like "CANADA" and "CUBA" as a challenge, but for the others:

    - the one with "50" on it is Moroccan, about average for the type
    - the big oval thingie is Japanese, others will need to help on that
    - the small one with a square hole is some kinda Chinese cash coin, more recent having Manchu script, the other side is needed for full ID
    - the old silver one looks like an Abbasid dinar, can't tell further without a better pic

Some neat stuff there, welcome to the Darkside! image

Thanks spoon, I just got a coin collection passed down to me and trying to find some values. I figured an old canadian cent or a coin from cuba is certainly worth a fortune image

    Thanks again

Here is a closer inspection of the Dinar I checked out ebay and it looks like a Silver Dirham

  • I believe this site has your Japanese oval coin.
Don't know if that helps but you at least know what it says on it now...

Thanks for the site, and WOW those coins are old! I am just browsing the forum here and cant believe some of the ancient coins posted!

Coming from the card forums, ANYTHING before 1900 is just unreal to me
  • The round coin with a square hole is a Chinese cash coin, which needs to be rotated counter-clockwise 90 degrees to make it easier for the forumites who read Manchu to ID the mint and approximate age.

Is there a small punch mark or dimple on the two longer edges of the Japanese coin?

I've been waiting for pics of the other side before commenting. image

Counting left to right, top to bottom:

#1: Canadian cent. Can't help with a value without the date, which is on the other side.

#2: Morocco 50 centimes, there's no date on it but it was struck in 1921 in Paris. Made of nickel. $1 in VF.

#3: I assume it's a Canadian quarter. Silver, but can't help with a value without the date, which is on the other side.

#4: Cuba 20 centavos, looks like 1915 to me. Silver. The catalogue lists two varieties, "coarse reeding" and "fine reeding", with "fine" being much scarcer. CV for coarse reeding is $10 in gVF.

#5: Japan 100 mon, circa 1835. There should be two "funny little marks like a star", opposite each other on the rim. Priced at $8 in Fine.

#6: Chinese Empire cash coin, Board of Revenue mint. We'll need to see the other side to identify the emperor and give an approximate date.

#7: 'Abbasid silver dirham. We'll need to see the other side to have a go at deciphering the date.

#8: Great Britain 1/2 penny 1876 H. There are three varieties listed for this date, but there's no details in the catalogues as to how to tell them apart. The commonest is $2 in Fine.

#9: Tunisia 1 franc; again, the date is on the other side.
