Values of these gold Solidus Byzantine Empire coins???

I own these four Byzantine coins. I bought them a long time ago.

Assuming these are in AU condition, what are the approximate values of each?

Does the value of any of these four go up appreciably as the condition gets higher in mint state?
Where do I look to look up these coins values these days?

Thanks

I've also got a Maur.Tiberius and Phocas. I would say between $500-$580 for these but I'm not sure about the other two.
the Phocas is probably the one I've seen for sale most often.

They often pop up on ebay and this could be a place to check if you type in "Solidus" into the search you might find similar ones.

Josh from civitasgalleries would be able to give you a better answer though.

  • Assuming that they are XF (which is AU in ancient) then $550+ per.

Are you grading these like modern coins or like ancients? even a weak srike, or even a small defect could bring this from XF to VF, not really much of a price difference though, if any.

You might check some of the old on line auction catalogs from CNG. I do not follow these to offer an opinion as to value

There have been some outliers in the last few auctions, realizing absurd prices in NGC holders. Otherwise, normal collector values haven't changed dramatically.

They've gone up with the price of gold, obviously. Byzantine and Arab gold can still often be had for not much above bullion value.
