    he should retire
  • Let's see, 2 quarters of throwing in a comeback vs. a dogpoop Chicago team, 4 vs. a Giants team who had already quit for the season, then the Cowgirls who folded it up after the first quarter when they knew another collapse was coming.... just sayin....

That first touchdown pass Sunday was, however, possibly the best throw I've ever seen...

Unlike last year, when he hid an injury from the Jets so he could keep The Streak intact, he wasn't playing hurt this time. We had every reason to think it was a "late season collapse" last year because he wouldn't admit to an injury, much to the detriment of the Jets.

Favre is ok as an NFL quarterback, given that he has won one Superbowl. That gives him some "street cred" and places a little above all of the NFL QB's who have never won a title (those guys are not worth wasting a breath on).

However, Favre will never be as good as the few quarterbacks who have more than one Superbowl victory under their belts (Montana, Bradshaw, Aikman, etc.),................. unless of course he wins at least one more Superbowl.

His longevity, won-loss record, 4th quarter come from behind victories, and lifetime stats do not mean jack,................ since the only measuring stick for an NFL QB is the number of rings he has.

  • Well if not for Ed Elway he would have 3 already !

Judging a QB's all-time ranking by Super Bowl wins is an exercise in silliness. A Super Bowl title has far more to do with the team around the QB than the QB himself. Favre is far better than either Bradshaw (who played with possibly one of the best teams of all-time on both sides of the ball for a decade) or Aikman (who had the benefit of playing with Smith and Irvin and one of the best OL in NFL history). Favre has never had that kind of talent around him and has never had a RB close to the stature of AP or Emmitt Smith (or Franco Harris, for that matter). Look at John Elway. He had zero rings and would have retired with zero rings and a reputation as a Super Bowl "failure," if Terrell Davis hadn't come to town. Is Dan Marino not an all-time great because he never won a ring? By your "evaluation" method, he must not be, and if you really believe that then you don't know much about football, seriously.

  • The main reason Favre collapses in the late season is the weather. He doesn't have to worry about that as much playing in a dome.
  • Were his numbers as good in the 10 quarters before your sample size?

My post to this thread was very, very tongue in cheek.

    Favre is amazing.

Just like Elway was amazing, even before he won two rings. His earlier Superbowl losses stemmed primarily from the fact that he had little help from the rest of his teammates. His teams that won two rings had much better talent than the earlier teams. Marino is no doubt also a great QB who unfortunately made one Superbowl early in his career and never came close to sniffing another one.

Sanction, I stand corrected...I should have noticed the smiley face after your post, and took it literally instead. My bad, LOL..and I agree with you wholeheartedly about Elway, a terrific QB even before he got the two rings, which he deserved.

They certainly were not BAD ! He had 7 ints all year, I just picked that span as it was after the BS that him and Childress were arguing about play calling.

Favre is an amazing QB and one of the ultimate competitors in the leagues history. Fun to watch IMO. He may not be the most polished. He may not be the most accurate. But he still is a douchebag, which is why I'm rootin' for the Saints. image
