1 day ebay auctions for widgets?

What do you think about 1 day auctions for common widgets like au 58 to ms 62 raw morgans and run of the mill common date silver quarters etc. Mainly coins that do not carry a large premium? I been doing some both ways and do not think it makes a real difference. When i list for 7 days with a 1 cent start about 50 percent of the time i get 1 or 2 small bids under a buck and the coin just sits for the next six days. All the action happens in the last 6 to 8 hours and the last 15 seconds. I am really just talking raw coins but common date graded morgans might be the same?

I like to list for 5 to 7 days but see the same pattern on my moderns. --Jerry

Agree. I've seen the same but have just gone down to 3 days so far.

On common coins with some collector appeal, like Morgans, one day auctions provide about the same results as three day auctions. Lots of viewing for auctions the first day (new) and the last day (ending). If an AU Morgan sells for about $20. it is going to do so whether it is a one; three, five or seven day auction. That's been my experience.

I see no difference in auction times, or whether you start at .01 cent, .99 cents, etc.

Given the economy, I suspect that there are fewer bidders and less competition, and thus less auction frenzy around 'widgets.' I also wonder if the "Best Match" formula eBay uses to control the order of appearance of searched items is partly responsible. I have observed that some of my 'widgets' remained submerged in the search results and stayed there until near the auction end, while the listings of more active sellers or those who offer free shipping (or whatever other criteria determine this order) were promoted to a higher position in the search. Of course, I try to avoid the 'Best Match' sorting in my own searches, but perhaps many buyers knowingly or unknowingly are subjected to it.
