Buying a Cut Card Case.....how to pay?

I am considering buying a 1980s Topps cut card case from a dealer over the phone, and I can pay either by Paypal or credit card. My question is if ends up being searched/cherry picked, which of the two payment methods would be best in terms of getting a refund? The paypal dispute process is painful to begin with, and I can't imagine trying to explain what a cut card case is and what it is supposed to contain if a dispute gets filed with Paypal...they don't ever seem knowledgeable about cards. My gut feeling is that they would side with the seller. And I know I would need to ship it back at about half the cost of the case itself even if they side with me.

I am thinking then that using a regular credit card over the phone would be my best option, but I am unfamiliar with how a credit card company would handle such a situation if I filed a claim with them. Would I need to ship it back, or could I just trash the case...since that's all it would be if the case ends up being cherry picked.

Thanks,
Joe

Not sure about all of that, but I hope you're not expecting any high-grade cards out of it. There has been a few people who tried the cut card cases, and they were mostly beat up due to how the cards are stacked in the case. Expect nothing higher than a 7 or 8. Having the cards cherry-picked wouldn't be my highest concern.
  • Think you are better off using a credit card. They should give buyers better protection then Paypal.

I have only bought 1 cut card case before - a 1984 Topps Hockey. Except for a small number of cards on the ends of the case, the cards were perfect. I got several 9s when I submitted them....and the only reason they were not 10s is they were a bit off-center or had tiny print dots.....but the corners and edges were perfect.
  • Ask the seller to just open the top of the case and send you a pic of it. If the case has been searched, it will be easy to tell even if the pic is crappy.

Just my opinion, if you are looking for minty fresh cards to grade, you are better off just buying a wax or rack box. I have purchased 4 cut card cases (two '81s, one 82 and one 84) and pulled a total of about 15 PSA 10's from all 4 cases combined.
