90 Down--1955 Movie Stars of M.G.M. Completed in PSA 8 or Better

Anyone who looks at my completed sets can see I am a sucker for movie star sets (half of my completed non-sports sets are of movie stars). So when non-sports card collector extraordinaire Steve Lucas contacted me and offered me this set, I knew it was one I had to have.

The set is only 18 cards but 9 are psa 10 and the other 9 are psa 9. Also the cards have the most vibrant colors I have ever seen The only ones I have which compare are 1945 Mutoscope. Among the stars in this beauty are Debbie Reynolds, Glenn Ford, Vic Damone and Cyd Charisse. All of the cards are the highest pop ever graded of this apparently rare set.

There are so many attractive non-sports sets its difficult to hold back but my focus here remains movie stars, tv stars, music stars, and historical sets.

This represents my 90th set completion overall with each card psa 8 or better and my 15th non-sport set. I will let it rest at this level.
Th goal remains 100 vintage or semi-vintage sets in psa 8 or better. I appreciate the help of all collectors and dealers in helping me achieve my goals.

Jim , with doing a little search , on January 17th 2006 , you had just added your 36th set , the 1933 Goudey Sport King set . What a set that was .

So doing a little simple math ( except for moderrn students of the government schools ) , you have added 54 sets in 4 years. Your getting to 90 sets is a great feat. You finishing off 54 sets in 4 years , speaks even louder.

Jim , way to go !!!!!image

    Congrats Jim!

I'm still trek'in on my way to the museum, but ran out of money in eastern Colorado and had to trade the scooter in on something that could make me some money to live on.

Luckily, I did so well with the mowing from town to town that I was able to sell it and buy a Harley!!! I should now be able to get to Atlanta for the ribbon cutting ceremony!

"its like watching the ball fall in times square on New Year's Eve but in super slow motion....".

I guess that sounds exciting--I would try to speed it up but its a little bit out of my control. Maybe set 100 will be on next New Year's eve

    Sonny,

54 sets in 4 years. I would not have thought it was that many. I thought perhaps 10 sets a year. Goudey vSport Kings was my most memorable completion. Its my favorite set and also was completed following the largest trade(dollar wise) in sportscard history. Fortunately for me Don Louchios focuses his efforts on completing T206 in psa 8 or better and other prewar sets and I don't have to compete with him.

The rest of you guys--thanks for your support.

You've done it again. Remember ... one day when you pass thru St. James on the way out to the Hamptons I want to get to see some of those amazing cards of yours!

Congrats, Jim -- keep up this pace, and you'll be done before July 4!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Year-end? Possibly but not commiting to it.

    Midyear--no way.

Doug--will try. Do you know either Larry Gladstone or Frank Evanov--I think both live near.

Jim , Even though I realize that I have nothing to do with what you collect, I'd love to see you get one of the Batman sets done.

Its one of the non-sports sets I plan to pursue after one of the sets for my sons is finished.

Just my 3 cents adjusted for inflation.--- Sonny

Its not about what I would suggest or like. I think there are three of the sets . I just remember having these when I was younger and always found the cards to be "Kool". There are a number of sets in the registry that might offer more help. If by chance you had these when you were young , I'm sure there will be one that lights up your memory.

Jim , my suggestion about the set was just that . Good luck on what ever you choose.--- Sonny

Edited---- I found out there are 11 sets. WOW.
