How to display an empty wax box?

Actually it's an empty '74 wax box that's been opened and had all the side perforations torn loose. I'm trying to fill it with foam pellets, etc. to get it to hold shape. I think I'm going to have to tape the sides down even though I hate to. This is my first empty wax box to display... advice needed.

I'd cut a solid piece of styrofoam to the inner dimensions of the box.

If tape must be used, try double-sided tape on the inside, tacking the box to the styrofoam.

Edited to add: A sheetrock handsaw cuts firm styrofoam blocks neatly.

If it were mine I would cut a block of Styrofoam to fit inside the box, and wrap it in cellophane (like BBCE does with their boxes). I know there are a few guys on here that display boxes. Good luck!

    EDIT: I type slow... image

The alternative is to flatten it and frame it.

Great suggestions. I never thought of displaying boxes. I don't have many ('81 and '84 Donruss, '83 Topps, et al) and they're stored all together in a bigger box totally out of sight. Why not enjoy them?!! I just bought a nice shelf at an antique store today that would display some boxes really well -- along with some cards that came out of the box(??!). I'll have to play with that idea.

    Thanks!

I was just looking at some ideas on the net Mike.

I was considering a small store display cabinet (w/lights) - will probably go local at a dealer of these type items - a nice used one will be fine.

I don't collect boxes - but I do have this one - got from Mark Murphy back around 1993. It's in really nice shape.

I got it because of #7.

Just stick it on a shelf!

Seriously, get a block of styrofoam and then some heat shrink cello envelopes. You put it in the envelope and turn a blow dryer on it.

Good lighting always makes a nice display look great. I'm sure you'd have to have the right kind of lighting, too, right so things don't fade over time?

What year is that Topps box w/#7 on it?? That's a nice display piece -- great pickup!
