your favorite part about selling?

This message I just received on Ebay made my morning:

"Hi! I sent 3 of these in for grading and 2 came back PSA 9 and the other PSA 10. Thanks again!!!"

As a seller, there's nothing quite as satisfying as making goal on a sale and finding out the buyer is happier than they expected to be.

What aspect of selling gives you your jollies?

I remember back about 5 years ago spending $1,000 on an album full of 1953 Topps cards. It had one page of 1952 Topps and one page of 1952 Bowman, but the rest were 1953 Topps. When I got home, I realized that I was only 7 cards from having a complete set. Of course, Mantle and Mays were missing. I ended up spending an extra $700+ to finish out the set. So, I have $1,700+ in this 1953 Topps Set. I end up selling the set on Ebay for $3,892.00.

That's only half of the story. Sure, it was nice making that much of a profit. The other half of the story is just as nice. I was very nervous about shipping this set, especially since it had to go all the way to Hawaii. The part that made me the most nervous was that I was hoping that the buyer would agree with the way I graded the set. I described the condition of every star card, plus I broke down the entire set by grade. This was my first really big sale like that, so I was very concerned that I had graded it correctly. After the buyer received the set he emailed me thanking me for selling the set and that I did a great job grading it. He said, "In fact, this set was actually a little better than what you graded it. Your grading was accurate and leaning on the conservative side."

So, bottom line is, I made a very nice profit, and the buyer was thrilled with the set and thought it was nicer than I had graded it.

It is "nice" to buy a large lot, keep the stuff ya like and want, and "get rid" of the stuff ya don't want, and still in total make a buck on it.

I get a bang out of selling to players' friends and relatives. Most recently it was a kid's mom buying the kid a card of his grandfather. I'll bet it's on display in his bedroom now.
