Is this Ruth sig legit if not a print? (UPDATE WITH POST AUTCTION RESULTS)

I am going to look at some stuff and there is a framed Babe Ruth cut. Does this signature look good if it is not some preprint or cheap reproduction item? Any guesses?

I wouldn't touch a Ruth signature that wasn't already certified by either JSA or PSA/DNA

    Hi Allen,

To me, the "crossed T" is the biggest tell tale sign that the sig is not legit. Next would be the "B" ... not even close!

The entire signature is too damn neat.

Here's a few authentic Ruth's from which to compare ....

It's definitely hand-signed, but almost certainly not by Ruth like the other gents have said.

What I find interesting is how perfectly even the bottom is - like there was an imaginary line?

Also - take note of the R - how the end of the R is very dark? Like there was hesitation - the person had to think about it - I think that's what some would call a "deliberate" attempt? And - I agree - that doesn't look like his R. And the B is different also.

In this day - I think it's best to only buy a sig that's certified.

Keep in mind - if ya have to have it certified - and even if the seller says they'll take it back? You're out 150 clams on a Ruth or Gehrig e.g.

  • Looks like it is most likely a fake. I have never seen an auto written in such a level manner without the use of lined paper.
  • i wouldnt buy any signature unless he signed it in front of my eyes. Too many fake sigs, coa's.

I don't think it is real, but even if I thought it were, I would not buy it without some sort of guarantee I could return for a full refund if it did not pass certification...

Maybe I will buy it and throw it on eBay and see if anyone catches it.

    Looks good to me.....

Ruths sigs are usually straight as an arrow, he didnt need lines image

Plus the ink looks slightly faded and looks to have age.

Need to find out what type pen was used.

It looks later in his life to me. (1930-40s)

But what do I know, Ive only seen several hundreds of them over the years.

    Im not an expert.

And I would NOT take a chance if its raw, because the down side is a completely worthless item.

Get a guarantee it will pass authenticity, before buying.
A good seller will do this.

PS a ball and a flat item are not the same to sign. A flat item is much easier to sign.

Thank you guys for your input as always, especially this time. I just ran across an auction like eight hours before it started and this was one of the items. It was from a very high end estate, so I was not sure. It seems it was a collector who was not 100% in the know and got burned on this piece and a few others. I did however score Muhammed Ali signed Field of Dreams glove set and a Jerry Rice/ Joe Montana dual signed full size helmet from Steiner both custom framed in amazing displays. The Ruth brought over $1,400 and a ball signed by Williams, DiMaggio and Mantle brought $1,400 and sold on ProxiBid. I appreciate the groups inight or I probably would have been hooked into bidding at least $700 on that freakin Ruth based on where it came from. Here are a few quick pics of the items I won.

BTW that is a Christmas Story leg lamp in the fore ground and a pack of bubble mailer in the background of the helmet pic. The Ali gloves have Field of Dreams matching number decal on the gloves and the Helmet has a matching Steiner sticker.

    Congratulations on your pick Allen.

I have a pair of Ali gloves that I bought 20 yrs ago - from SCD - have no idea if they're real or not?

    Nice pickups.

I'm not a Ruth auto expert, but I have inherited a Ruth auto that was obtained by my uncle Joe. The "T" is crossed
    on his auto.

The Montana helmet is signed by Jerry Rice on the other side, hard so tell in the pic since it is backward in the mirrored glass. Did you get your Ali gloves from Field of Dreams? Any ide what they sold for from them? I noticed they don't have any on their site.
