Jeremy Pruitt a leading candidate to replace James Willis on Alabama's staff

Alabama director of player development Jeremy Pruitt is the leading candidate to replace departed inside linebackers coach James Willis as an assistant for the Crimson Tide, according to multiple sources.
Pruitt was considered for an on-field role on the Crimson Tide's staff last year and chose to stay with the program in his current capacity.
This time, it all depends on how quickly Nick Saban wishes to move to replace Willis, who officially departed for Texas Tech on Thursday after days of discussions.
UA's defensive coaches -- including coordinator Kirby Smart -- are now thought to favor a promotion for Pruitt, a former Tide player who joined the program's support staff in 2007 after a successful stint as a defensive assistant at Hoover High School.
Pruitt also was a student coach at Alabama in the 1990s. He previously coached at Fort Payne High School and was a part of the Hoover teams that were filmed as a part of MTV's "Two-A-Days" series. During Pruitt's three years there, the Bucs won two state championships.
Willis was responsible for recruiting the talent-rich Mobile area, and sources have suggested those same duties could go to Pruitt if he is hired as a position coach.
Jeremy is one of my long time friends. We grew up together and still play golf often during the summer while he is at home. His dad is still the coach at Plainview. Best of luck to you Porkchops!

Pruitt, a former assistant coach at Hoover High School, has been a director of player development at Alabama for the past three years. He will work with the defense.
Inside linebackers coach James Willis left Saban's staff this week to become the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech.
