Carnton sale at FUN, a synopsis of the sale.

The set was initially only to be an exhibit at FUN with the FE Cents being available for sale. There was intense interest in the collection and a number of collectors showed enough interest in the set that we (BWRC and myself) were able to figure a number that might get the collection bought. When it changed from an exhibition to a sale it was, what I would say, was a well-ordered feeding frenzy. The collectors involved were all courteous to the others and it worked out well for all, including the former owner.

This collection is a great example of full red coins that are all-there! They were picked for quality when they were sold by Eagle Eye back in 1994-1998. They were properly stored and remained red to this day and will remain red for the next 100 years, I'm sure.

I was lucky enough to have a "private viewing" of these beauties - and they are all outstanding, each and every one of them - WOW! And Todd's photographs really help bring out their true colors and detail. This is just an amazing and outstanding set of Indians, probably the best I've ever seen in person. I certainly can understand a "feeding frenzy" over this set. imageimageimage

  • What a set, Rick. It was a privilege to see the coins as well as the professional presentation. Probably a once in a lifetime view of such quality pieces all togther as a set. I really liked the 1895. What a coin.

Were you at FUN, Ira? I didn't see you. I had a medal with your pic on it at my table.

    Hi Rick,

I was in a hospital in Rochester from Dec 18 thru Jan 7, a total of three weeks. Had to cancel hotels and flights for FUN, Long Beach and Baltimore. Not likely to travel before mid June when all is fully healed. What a bummer. I love going to these big shows and meeting up with all you guys. Just wasn't in the cards. Didn't know it at the time but it was very touch and go and was close to death when the docs decided to go in.

Anyhow, I am too mean to die so I'll live to fight another day. The occupational nurse came to my home today asked if I needed her to come into the shower with me today. Like a damn fool I told her I could manage. She was real cute too. Opportunity
    missed.

    Ira,

Glad to hear you are mending quickly. I had your Rochester CC Presidential medal at the table with a sign that said "get well soon". I'm glad it worked!

BTW, always, thanks for the Christmas card.

    Rick,

I felt powerful forces emaning from the South in early Jan two days before I was sent home. Now I know it was the medal working it's magic. Thanks for the good word!
