Flea Market raid yields 2100 counterfeit NFL jerseys

Just heard on the radio (WLW, Cincinnati) that NFL officials, along with local police, raided a local flea market and seized 2100 counterfeit jerseys from four vendors. I guess the NFL is cracking down hard on unlicensed merchandise. Of course, if they were Bengal jerseys, they were probably being given away.

Were the jersey's counterfeit or unlicensed? I've travelled to countries where the jersey's are made and you can find them at street markets all day long. They have the same quality and all of the holograms. The only difference is that the NFL didn't get a chance to mark them up 400%.

  • There are tons of sites online that sell them, for all sports. There has been a huge debate going on over on a hockey forum for a while.

You hit the nail on the head with that one, they would be considered unlicensed. As a
part time seller, they have no problem with you ordering from korea, china,so why let you
buy, then come take everything when they let you have it in the first place.I have heard of
nascar sellers getting there whole truck&trailer set up confscated,
till they get what they want and take the rest, crazy, thats alot of $ they got today.

Take a look on Ebay sometime - probably 95-98% of all NFL jerseys on there are fakes. Do a search for Peyton Manning sometime and you'll see. Jersey after jersey after jersey that are fake. And, yes, they're counterfeit, not just unlicensed. There's differences in the construction, the lettering, the quality, everything.

Want a sure sign that a jersey is a fake? If it has a Captain patch on it, it's a fake. Those patches have never been made available to the public for sale.

Anybody interested in jerseys should check out www.jerseycentral.org, the best place for jersey fans.

I didn't see a follow-up story in today's paper, so I don't know if the jerseys were counterfeit or unlicensed.

In China, fakes (even stuff like toothpaste!) are so rampant - the govt can't begin to keep up with the production...

companies have resorted to hiring private eyes - sorta like bounty hunters - to root out the fakers and bring it to the police.
