last thoughts on the Eagles for 2009-10 season...

coming off last night's complete obliteration at the hands of a superior Cowboys squad, now that the emotional sting is gone, I can honestly say...

speaking as an Eagles fan, we've been completely spoiled by having such a remarkably successful and relevant squad for all this time... Even in the years when we've had patchwork O and D units, we've always played competitively, won MORE than our fair share, and have always been a force to reckon with, with about a 40:1 ratio of good memories to bad... I remember losses which kept us out of, or from winning the superbowl, but we always seem to be a single possession away from the ellusive win.. there has been nothing I can remember remotely like last nights Woopin'

I can't imagine rooting for crap franchises who year in and year out get thier lunch handed to them and their doors blown off over and over, with almost no highlights to remember.

That being said, with OL repairs pending and youth at all the skill positions, I'm looking forward to next year already!

Good luck Cowboys and I hope to enjoy some "emotional-tie free" NFL playoff football entertainment today and next week!

  • Now the Eagles will be going through that what seems like an annual speculation about the future
of McNabb and Andy Reid, will they stay or go.......... this can't be a fun exercise for Eagles fans.

You guys also HAVE to address the RB situation. When a team KNOWS you're not going to run except as an exception, it puts you in a bind.

You're right - it's been rare under the Andy Reid era that the Eagles looked so bad in a playoff game. One play that I've haven't seen any comment on yet, was an Eagles punt I think it was in the 3rd quarter, an Eagles special teams player was close to the Cowboys return man and I think he just figured the Cowboys player was gonna call for a fair catch...well the Cowboys player caught the ball and ran it back for a big return when he could have been easily tackled by that Eagles player who just sorta stood there. I know special teams players make mistakes all the time, but to me this was a lack of focus and concentration, and it seemed to be in other areas as well for the Eagles in this game.

I'm gonna chalk it up mostly to the Eagles youth and inexperience...and I'd like to see some better coaching effort. I hate to admit this but the Cowboys coaches had an excellent game plan out there, and adjusted their game plan during the game far better than the Eagles did.

The Eagles will be back next season, and I think stronger and hopefully more hungry than ever. If McNabb remains the starter, I think they have to find a way to get Kolb more reps in there during games, and give him a legitimate opportunity in camp to unseat McNabb. Some games McNabb looks brilliant, but his inconsistency is frustrating, especially in big games where he often doesn't perform when if the game is close. There is no doubt in my mind, no doubt, that a QB type such as Ron Jaworski would have won one or two Super Bowls for us during this Andy Reid era.

Its time to blow this close-but-no-cigar team up. Reid should never have been given an extension. In
ten years, he's proven he can put together a strong contendor but not a team that can win the SB.
As a fan, I would rather win the Super Bowl one year in ten seasons and play the other nine seasons
like the Lions. Look at the Phillies. Manual and Amaro could put a team like the Nats or Mets and a most
fans would not be this frustrated like they are with the Birds.

It also wouldn't hurt to have your biggest Eagle not be the coach.

Whats the difference? Any of the strong contenders can win a super bowl if the breaks go their way. It's a coincidence that the Eagles didn't win one. Usually there are 3 or 4 teams per year that it's a coin flip which one wins it. If one of the other good teams won in 06, not the Colts, would we be saying that team should have been blown up because they were a strong contender but couldnt win the SB? It very well could have happened, but would be dumb.

My biggest knock on the Eagles is that, for a team that seems to always look pass-first, this is the first year that they have actually put any effort into signing a good WR core.
