How long does it take for PCGS to send my coin back?

I sent my 1798 1$ to PCGS for a cross over which was received by PCGS on 12/14. As I have reported the coin DNC from NGC and I heard about this roughly a week later. I've called customer service several times and all they say is that it will be sent back this week. 2 weeks later the status still is not changed on my submission so I don't know if it was sent and not updated or not sent at all. I was out of town most of this past week so I haven't spoken with customer service since week before last.

My question is does PCGS always update the coin's status online or is it possible that the coin was returned and is in transit?

Thanks

if they sent it back, the "update grade" procedures would have to fail AND the "update shipping" would have to fail. I do not know if the "update-ability" of the shipping info is dependant upon the grade being updated or not... nor do I know if there are other procedures that would have to fail.

It sure seems like they still have it. I haven't heard of a story in my short time on here where PCGS returned a coin without some part of the system being updated.

Do not forget they had two holidays, and may or may not have had people on vacation as well...

My express order is 1 or 2 business days "late" ... but they don't make guarantees. So far, we're close enough I'm just going to wait.

Here is the Current Turn Around Times in the bottom center:
    REGULAR SERVICE:

    • 17 business days.

    Economy Service:

    • 35 business days.

    Modern Service:

    • 20 business days.

    World Service:

    • 40 business days.

    me:
    Express?
    6 or 7?

If you submitted Express, and they rec'd it on the 14th... I'd call them if it was express just to status it.

Otherwise, they would seem to be within their service levels.

Generally those turnaround times are optimistic. But occasionally they're beaten.

PCGS has had one of my coins since Oct 22!

What does this have to do with anything? He already knew the service was provided 19 or more days ago so he should have had it back long before now. If reg service is 17 days and they do it in 5, it doesn't mean that they can/should just sit on it for 12 more days.

I didn't look up the old coin thread to see if it was a low grade and thus lower value example and submitted under regular or (yeah yeah, most likely) express.

I'm just trying to cover all the bases.

I could have simply said... "call cust. service" since cust. service is really the place to ask.

    eh.

  • I sent it in as an express since it was a $10k coin. I can't figure out what is keeping them from shipping back after they determined the grade.

If you submitted the coin yourself, go to Your Membership Page. The submission status should look like this:

    image

If your submission has a "Date Shipped" entry, then its been shipped and expect it from a week to 12 days after that date. No tracking would be available since these are returned Registered Mail.

If there is no Date Shipped entry, then it has not been shipped.

If you click the link and it shows something like:

    image

Then the grade has not been finalized.

I submitted four PCGS Graded Quarters for Type B Variety Attribution and the order was posted on 12/2 yet the grades are not available. To me, this is a no brainer which takes about 3 minutes to validate yet the coins are still sitting there.

Sometimes it takes a lot of patience.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Don't know why you sent it express (mail?). Max insurance on Express is $5K. PCGS will be sending it back registered I'm quite sure and you will receive a US mail registration number from them when it ships. Although the USPS registration number is not a "tracking" number (Lee likes to remind me of this) you can enter the registration number at usps.com in the block that says "track and confirm" and see shipping info. Sometimes they show the updates along the way and they always show shipment's delivery. Registered mail is slow and PCGS submissons always test my patience.

Problems with charging your credit card for the grading service and return shipping could also cause a delay.
