Coin ID help needed

I saw a coin at a local auction preview today. Sorry no photo. It is a French coin and the date is 1734. It is a little bit bigger than a Morgan silver dollar. It is silver. My world coin book only goes back to 1800. Any imformation on what it is and what it's worth would be helpful. I would grade it fine.
Thanks
John

  • Without a picture this has to be purely conjecture. Possibly an 1 ecu. Weighs 29.4880 grams, .9170 silver, .8693 asw. Has Louis xv on one side looking to the left, three fleurs under a crown on the reverse. IN fine $35.

At "a little bit bigger than" a US silver dollar, it has to be an ecu. France had over two dozen mints operating at the time this coin was struck, and at least half of them struck some ecus that year; some mintmarks are slightly scarcer than others, but there aren't any major rarities of that date listed. The mintmark is on the reverse, below the shield with the fleur-de-lys on it.

Thank you for the information. The mint mark is an 'L'.
