Does anyone collect everything?

I collect ALL coins...US, world, new, old, everything. If I do not have it, I keep it regardless of its condition. When—or if—I find a better one, I replace the lesser. I even buy world coins by the pound to go through them and keep the ones I need. I was wondering if anyone else does the same? One can learn a lot about the world and the people who have lived upon it by doing this.

Yep. I learned that my ex-wife couldn't tolerate me spending money on shiny little trinkets that weren't going on her fingers and wrists.

But seriously, I used to try the "everything from everywhere", but a major illness brought me to a point that I felt I needed to focus and get a collection with some direction, rather than a horde.

That sounds pretty much like me, except I don't buy poundage too often anymore. I never know what to do with the bucketful of duplicates.

I'm sure that I'll stop doing this soon too. Once I start getting too many duplicates. There are just too many different world coins for me to not do this for a little while.

yea i have had to put the ones i like in flaps and seperate the in tubs, U.S. in one, Canada and U.K. in another, south america in one and Europe in another. I bought alot of world coin 10-30 pound lots years ago and got alot of nicer specimens. I bought a 20 pound lot recently and most the lots nowadays have 1960 and up coins. I bought several pounds of estate wheat pennies took out ones for my collection and put the remaining 50 pounds or so in the pillow case.

All in al i probably have about 1000 coins in flaps or slabs that are my collection. the rest are just the pounds of left overs i have sold or disposed of.

I collect a little bit of everything. I've tried to narrow down my focus a couple of times, but I've never found that "certain something" that really got me. For a while that bothered me. I thought I should specialize. Then I figured out that my "certain Something" was coins in general. It works for me and keeps me happy.

Yep-have everything in 10,000 2 x 2's. Also have 3-4,000 extras in cigar boxes. Never saw a coin I didn't like or want. However, I am specializing in Canadian Large cents and New Foundland coins.

Not everything, but far too much - French coins (all periods, but especially Revolution to WWI), German States (especially Bavaria, Bremen, Brunswick (both), Frankfurt, Hamburg, Oldenburg), Poland Second Republic, German Empire, Queen Victoria pieces, Oddly-shaped coins (particularly from India and the India Ocean area), Barber Quarters and Halves, Morocco up to the 1950s, Tunisia up to the 1930s, you get the idea!

I really try to limit myself to a few areas, but it is very difficult - so many designs and so much history to choose from!

I do my very best to stick to only a few, pre-defined sets. I'm doing fairly well on that so far.
  • I collect all world coins as well, just not as actively as I used to.
If anyone has a list of their duplicates maybe a thread of those lists could fill some holes here and there.
