Need info on Ikes

Hello everyone, I need some assistance from the more seasoned coin people.

How did the mint distribute the Ikes in 71-74, I cant find them in the mint sets. I know the 40% silver came in soft packs , but I cant find them in mint sets.

Please pass on some knowledge.

Thanks

Gary

Need a little more info, but the 71-72 P D Ikes were issued only in bags.
    73 P D only in mint sets
74 P D in bags and mint sets

71-74-S Mint State in Blue Soft Packs
    71-74-S Proofs in Hard cases

    Hopefully that has you covered

The '71, '72, and '74 coins were available through the FED but not all
banks availed themselves of keeping them in stock. Most passed them
out on request but few or none made an attempt to issue them in lieu
    of other coins or bills.

Mintages were high initially because the government hoped to get the
coins circulating but after only a couple years of this being largely a fail-
ure there were none at all made for circulation. Ironically this was the
same year the mint was finally geared up to include them in the regular
mint set so the 1973 was made only for mint sets. These are available
from dealers now where the coins have been cut out to supply the col-
lector market. The Philly issue is horrendous and you need to look at
five or six sets just to find a decent one. The Denver is much better and
about two in three are OK.

Mintages rebounded a little in '74 but these failed to circulate in large
quantities since vending machines wouldn't take them and banks didn't
    issue many.

The bicentennial issue was made in large numbers largely as national
pride probably and then later mintages tapered off sharply. The coin did
see light circulation through the early '80's. The SBA issued in 1979 saw
almost no circulation except in very limkited usages where it circulated
rapidly. The Boston Transit System, IIRC, for instance used the SBA.

All the regular issue coins appeared in mint sets except the '71 and '72.
The type I bicentennials were in the '75 set and type II in the '76. There
are few varieties in the mint sets however. None of the Ikes appeared
in regular souvenir mint sets but there were special souvenir sets that
did contain some of the regular issue Ikes.

    Welcome aboard.

    << <i>71-74-S Proofs in Hard cases >>

That is 71 - 74-S Silver proofs in hard cases (a.k.a. Brown Ikes for the brown box)

73 - 74-S Clad proofs were issued in proof sets.
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
