Made It!

Well, some of the dates need upgrading, but I have completed the 1936-Present Mint set.
Finally got possession of the last ones today, technically 2 days late for last years resolution, but the coins where bought before the end of the year.

I suspect Senor Brown will be joining me soon & with a better set, but nice to get to 100%.
Not sure if I'll continue with this set as the number of coins coming out of the Mint dilutes the fun of it for me.

Also, seeing how some of these Satin coins seem to be graded (IMO), well let me just say that a '08 SP68 Lincoln should have full steps....

    Thanks guys.

Casabrown, you dirty dog image , I expect you to take over in 2010.
And it could not go to a better 'Modern' collector, your proof sets are OUTSTANDING.

AllCoinsRule, it'll take a real sickness to complete this set, especially from 2009 onward.
    So many coins.
This is why I thought it was so important for me to get to 100% before the 2009s were required in the set.

As for me, I'm thinking of going back in steps base on 'key dates' or historic.
    '32-'35.....then '21-'31...'09-'20....'00-'08.
For the year (2010), I will be cutting back on purchases, but I hope to complete at least my 'Century' set 1909-2008.

Congrats!!! That's quite a few PCGS boxes!! I can understand about being hesitant to keep going forward with it though. Way too many coins that cost way more than just a basic mint set. I'm sure it would be much more fun to work backwards with it.

Link to the first 100% complete 1936-2008 Mint Set!!!

    Agustin,
CONGRATULATIONS! I just looked at your complete set and it is amazing. That took a lot of effort. May I suggest you continue and complete the 2009 year in the next several months. That will give you 999 coins in the collection. My bet is you will still be the only one with 100% complete all during 2009 if you do this. Otherwise you will drop below 100% in the next few days. Good luck.

    Thanks again guys.
It does feel good when you can finish a goal you've set.

<<...My bet is you will still be the only one with 100% complete all during 2009 if you do this.>>

Steve, if I was a betting man I'd take you up on that offer.
ErasmusHall, currently #2 with 93.77% will undoubtedly catch & pass me up in 2010.
If I get enough of the 2009 dates in trade....or buy some 'on the cheap' I may decide to finish the set off, but that is no longer a priority.
Move back to the future....or in this case the future is to move back, has become my focus.

Now I just need to stay focused. image

  • Augie,

That is remarkable in and by itself. To have that many coins.
    Upgrades are always possible.

Keep up the great work. Love the set...

Very Impressive!! Nearly a thousand coins, quite an achievement. I thought it was a big deal a few years back when I completed the complete Lincoln set with major varieties, Circ and Proof, but that was only three hundred and some odd coins. Nothing compared to your set.

    Once again, amazing, and congratulations!

Thanks again guys, I think at some point in time you've all helped me along.

mas3387, thanks for the last few that got me there.

Bill & Larry, upgrades will take a back seat to adding earlier dates needed, but are always on my mind.

    Augie,

Are you going to apply for the free pedigree before they switch over the 2009 dates?

    Free pedigree??
    Have a link?
I thought there was a charge for pedigree service.

Oh, and thanks to those that have replied since my last reply.
    Much appreciated.

    Augie,

I will be sending off Tony & Linda's Little Gold Hoard this week. It was approved yesterday for pedigree.

Send them an email and they will get back to you.

    Here is the link.

    http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/benefits.html

    Note this section 2.

A valuable pedigree. In the rare coin market a pedigree is a contributing factor in the pride of ownership and value of the coin. Coins from famous collections such as Eliasberg, Norweb, Garrett, etc., usually command a premium in the marketplace. In some instances, PCGS may recognize, at their discretion, pedigrees for people, living and dead, or of hoards or accumulations of coins that are of historical significance. Pedigrees recognize important collecting achievements both within and without the PCGS Set Registry.

If you participate in the PCGS Set Registry program your set may qualify for the free pedigree service. The free pedigree service policy is as follows:

The set must be 100% complete.
The set must be in the top 5 in the Registry.
PCGS does not pedigree modern Mint and Proof sets (1965-present) or Low Ball sets.
Sets with less than 10 coins may be pedigreed if warranted. The decision will be that of PCGS experts.
The Registry member is responsible for shipping and handling costs.
The fee for pedigrees for upgrades to your set submitted after the initial pedigree is $10 a coin. PCGS will not pedigree duplicate coins. You must submit both the upgraded coin and the coin it will be replacing. The coin that will no longer remain in your set will be reholdered without the pedigree and returned to you along with the newly pedigreed coin. Your set must remain 100% complete and in the top five to qualify.

To confirm that your set qualifies for the free Pedigree Service, contact customer service at setregistry@collectors.com. Then mail with your coins a PCGS submission form and a printed page from the set registry that lists your set in the top five.
Please note: Pedigrees can be up to 22 characters in length. If the coin has a variety designation (i.e. Type 1, Type 2, etc.), this is included as part of the total character count. Indicate on your submission form if you would like your coins sequentially numbered. PCGS no longer certifies coins with green inserts.
