Mercury Guys/Gals: "Being A Copy Cat"

Good Morning.
Liked the Morgan Dollar question so much so I thought the same should be asked of Mercury Collectors.
What Date or Dates can you just not pass by with out Buying or at least Looking at when at Shows....Dealers Stores....Ebay or Other Places.
One other question might be What is the Date that You would almost Buy at any price for your Set ??
The 2 dates that I cannot pass by are 1916P and 1925P. Have owned upto 4 each of these Dates at the same time in the last year. Have a Real Weakness for them for some reason.
The most sought after Date is 1927S. If one comes up in the right grade I would probably loose all sense of restraint.image
Dont be shy, throw some answers up.image

                      Ken:

Not a coin I have oned multiples of but a coin I would really like to own is a 45-P with FB. Through the years I've bid on a couple of these but my budget has precluded actually winning one. The combination of rarity is FB and non-rarity in non-FB is, for some reason, intriguing to me. However, a bright shiny 45-P MS6?FB is a coin that occupies my thoughts.

By the way, on a different topic I think the way you have listed the source of each of your dimes is very neat. It's interesting to see from whom you have purchased the coins. In your case it seems to be from a lot of dealers. I'm going to start doing that for my coins and you'll see that my purchases are concentrated among a few dealers. Is there any particular reason you have bought from many dealers?

                      Hey Ken,
The dime that I look at the most is 16d in Fb.
This is my dream coin. I have bid on a few of them knowing I could not afford it but i bid anyway.
One day I will have one in my set.

                    • Still looking for that 45P in fb that is just a knock out.

                    • I don't look at dates that I already have unless they are a higher grade or have "killer color".
If it has a nice unique color, I don't care how many of that date/mm I have. If the price is reasonable, I have a hard time passing it up. If I have a "boring" white one in the same grade, the white one can go! image

                      Regards,

Mark: Being from the "Very Dime Poor Pacific Northwest" I have only 2 Dealers that once in a while get ahold of Nice Mercury Dimes. One Dealer is about 30 miles away and the other is 200 miles away. With this in mind I have had to basically search the Web to find quite a few of the Mercury's. While doing this if Multiples of the Dime show up price is of the main concern since I am buying Sight Un-Seen. Also I sort of like to see what various dealers call thier PQ grades. Have mixed reviews on this. Another thing that enters in is that I like a little tone on the Dimes I purchase and most of the time these show up in various different places. Thats My explanation why the Dimes have came from all over. I had no real plan to get them like that but it was just how it worked out.
When I was talking about Mulitples showing up thats what happened with My 23S. I found 3 at the same time. Same Grade and all with FB. The price range was $1200.00 to $1750.00. Being that I bought Sight Un-Seen I bet you can guess which one I bought.image Turned out to be a Very Nice Dime also.
Don: You and I are not Collectors. We are HOARDERS. Right now I have three 18S's that I just could not resist Buying.imageimageimageWhen I first Posted I had completely forgot about them. Have multiples of others just because they "LOOK GOOD". What a Crude way to try to Finish the Series.

PS: Went out this Morning to 4 Coin Shops in the Portland area and found Exactly 0 Slabbed Mercury Dimes. Spent 5 hours and Drove about 150 miles.image See what I mean by "DIME POOR NW"imageimage

If I could find a nice looking '21-P or '21-D, that would give me a complete "year set" in Mint State. There's a '21-P on Teletrade Monday, but they haven't even posted a picture of it, so I don't know if I'll bid. Makes me wonder if it's a butt-ugly coin, or has some other kind of problem, even though it's a 65FB.

Actually, I'd buy just about any date that I need for my set (except the '16-D), if it had the right "look", was priced reasonably, and I felt that it was unlikely that I'd find another anytime soon.

Ken, of all the "P" mints, I like the '25-P best too, and have owned 3 of them. I've always thought the '31-P was underrated as well, and have owned 5 of those. There seem to be an unusual number of '31-P's available right now, though. I've can't recall ever seeing more than a couple of '25-P's offered at the same time.

                              Jim

Countdown to completion of my Mercury Set: 1 coin. My growing Lincoln Set: Finally completed!
