Nativity scene - german taler

One of the absolute favorites in my collection. Struck to commemorate the death of the bishop Maximilian Henry of Bavaria in 1688. The reverse of the taler features a nativity scene with the adoration of Christ. The symbolism is a reference back to the Cologne cathedral, which was built to house the relics of the three wise men. Pictures taken before it made its way into a NGC slab (F-15).

Happy holidays all!

It proved to be the toughest sede vacante taler piece I have found so far. I pounced on this one raw from a German dealer a couple of years ago. I do not have any mintage numbers, but I have only seen it offered in one or two auctions in the past 4 years since I have been watching.

p.s. - I see a nice AU/MS piece on MA shops right now at the tune of 4000 EUR if you are interested.
