There is a Santa Claus and he lives in Toronto!

Just received a large group of 1979 topps hockey in the mail today from a guy in Toronto. It composed of 4 PSA 8 unopened packs, 5 GAI unopened packs graded 8- 6.5 and 200 raw cards. The raw cards were 7's at best and the GAI packs looked horrible so I decided to open the lowest grade GAI 6.5.

When I opened the pack the top card was stained from the glue and the bottom card was destroyed from the gum which was in 7 pieces. The gum pieced together 100% so at least that was a good sign.

Disappointed so far I slowly went through the rest of the cards and was knocked on my ass to find the nicest Gretzky I've ever seen. Even nicer then my 9 which I have. There's only 1 slight problem with the card and I'd like to get the opinion of the guys on here about it.

I would love to post it on here but I don't know how to. Can someone PM me and tell me how to do it. Thanks

Admittedly reading was not my best subject in school, but no where in all your complaints about this wonderful gift you received do I see a "thank you Trent", or at least thank you kind stranger if he didnt include his name on the package. If someone sent me a gift worth about $900 (give or take) I would at least have the decency to say thank you, but that's just me. At least you thanked the person who would potentially help you figure out how to post a picture.

Hey thanks Santa! Even though I think alot of this stuff is crap, it was the thought that counts!

come on guys.. I think him posting the thread was his way of saying thank you for an obvious unbelievably
    generous display..

You can't really believe that. I know you like to give everyone a pass, but in the real world rainbows are not skittles and clouds are not marshmallows.

Edited to add: The 200 NM commons alone was a great gift, but the 9 legitimate unopened shots at a Gretzky rookie (of which he did pull one) was Felicia type generous.

Wow, that's a very generous gift! Trent is one of the good guys of this board, even if he did jump ship on my Seahawks this year due to his mancrush on Favre. image

  • Just so everyone of you guys who assumed I got a gift from a fellow member and didn't say thanks you are wrong. I paid for these from a guy on Ebay and made a great deal. Instead of attacking a new member which I see alot of, use some common sense. I'm trying to participate here as a new member and was trying to share a find and get some feedback. I noticed it's the same people making stupid comments all the time..You know who you are..

Anyway this is my first time posting a picture hope it works.

What a GREAT looking Gretzky!!! HOPING that is not a large ding at the top of the card and it's a piece of the plastic from the holder. If not a ding, I think you have an "8" there. If a ding, well, 5/6 at best. HOPING it's not a ding!!!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • How bad will the slight dent on the top hurt the grade? The back is perfect.

Nice Gretzky! Too bad about the dig on the top edge. Could have been a 10 if it wasn't for that. image

As for the comments you received about not being gratefull you have to realize where they are coming from. We have done a Secret Santa every year for the past 4 years and one of our members that participates is from Toronto. I think your timing was just bad and your post made it sound like this was your Secret Santa gift and you weren't happy w/ what you got since you never mentioned eBay in your original post. So just relax a little and you will get along nicely. image

    Exactly Mike.

My original thoughts (now confirmed) were why in the world would Trent send all that to a guy that's been here about a month.

Your Gretzky is a probably a 6. Enjoy your month or two here.

    Edited to add zep33's quote.
