I have noticed that after almost 4 years of collecting that I finally have listened and

learned to trust this forum and follow practically every bit of advice given to me.
Always have a trusted set of eyes inspect coins at auctions that you can't attend.
Buy the coin and not the holder.
Always get second opinions from experts.
Have patience and wait for the right coin.
If the coin doesn't jump out at you in a postive way from 1 st glance then pass.
If the coin has something that bothers you about from the get go it will only get worse.
Ownership adds a point.
Buyer beware of raw coins but don't let it stop you from getting it.

If the coin doesn't jump out at you in a positive way from 1 st glance then pass.
I've passed on many coins that had the technical grade I was looking for, but
not the right eye appeal. When I find a coin that absolutely fits 'the look', I know
it instantly and usually end up paying a premium for it.

That's quite a profound statement about the advice this forum provides!

the K in RYK obviously stands for Kool-Aid
1. Buy the holder. After all, they are the experts and
always know how to grade a coin correctly.
2. Buy a coin you do not like. That will make it easier
when it comes time to sell it.
3. The best and most original toning on a coin, is black.
The nice think about a black toned coin, is that the color
will never turn on you.
4 Always try to overpay for your coin. That way you insure
a tax loss on the coins sale.
5. Always get a second opinion from the dealer you bought
the coin from.
6. Never sell a coin. That way, you will not get upset about
being screwed, untill you sell your entire collection at a 80% loss.
7.Remember, If a MS-70 coin is nice, an MS-80 coin will be even nicer.
8. Even if you paid an MS-65 price for an AU-58 silver coin, it is always
worth silver melt value so it is not a total loss.
9. Always do the exact opposite of what the consensus of the Forum is.
After all, what do these people know.
10.10. Allways enjoy your collection even while you are being blued,
scr*wed and tatooed. After all, that is the American way of life.
I hope you find these comments as valuable as I did while learning each
and every one the hard way.

I do have a comment or three about "Always get second opinions from experts."
1. True. But it takes some time and effort to learn who the real experts are.
2. Learn and try to become your own expert...then trust yourself.
3. If the experts don't like it, there's a reason. Consider that reason carefully. But in the end, it's your coin. If you like it, that's what really matters.
I'd also add this to your list: Rule of thumb - Nice coins aint cheap; and cheap coins aint nice.
