Modern Proof NewP's- Poland and Austria

Occasionally I like to pick up a few modern proofs, this time I went for Poland and Austria as they have some really cool designs:

Poland- 2009 10 Zloty "Hussar"

Poland- 2006 10 Zloty "Jadwiga" History of the Zloty

Austria- 2007 "Melk Abbey"

Poland has done some really great stuff with coins over the past 10+ years, even the oddball stuff is usually done in neat ways. NCLT I can respect image

Wasn't the Abbey of Melk where the main character in The Name of the Rose was from?

I remember a few years ago Poland came out with another rectangular piece similar to this but the knight looked way to 'western'. I remember thinking at the time- it would be more appropriate if they came out with a Hussar coin. I got my wish!
The other Polish piece I ran across looking up more info on the one Weiss posted last week, since I couldn't afford 16K clams, I settled for this one... image
You are correct Spoon, the Apprentice- Adso, in the Name of the Rose was from Melk although the plot takes place in an Italian Monastery, great movie btw! image

  • Wow

    Those are some awesome designs.

I've always liked many Austrian coins and more recently some of the Polish but those blow away anything that I've picked up so far!
  • I'm a fan of the Hussar and Jadwiga, but the detail on the Melk Abbey is very nice. Detail up the yinyang. I might have to get one.
