I dodged a bullet today

I recently won an ebay auction for a handful of small lithographs, and got them today. They were mailed in a standard 18 1/2" long x 3" diameter cardboard mailing tube. Well, when they arrived, one of the plastic endcaps was missing (that end of the tube was wide open). The other endcap was there, but it was unsealed and could be easily pulled open. Luckily, nothing was missing from the tube, and nothing was damaged.

Apparently, someone in the postal system saw the tube and decided to open it to see if anything good was inside for the taking. When they discovered the contents were of no substantial value, they just sent the tube and its contents on their merry way. The ends had been sealed with packaging tape, but the tape had been cut/removed. The USPS did not put any notes on the tube indicating that anything was deemed to be amiss.

I've contacted the seller, who I know. He is a long-standing member of the hobby, and is very trustworthy and dependable. He was surprised as well by the news.

It should go without saying, but especially this time of year, we all need to be aware, and take extra care in packaging items for shipment. Unscrupulous people are out there looking for easy pickings so they can make a quick buck.

Please be careful out there! image
