Guess the Grade- 1840 Seated Dollar **grade posted

I have been looking for one of these for a long time, which leaves just one left for my 1840 - 1849 set of circulated Dollars, the dreaded 1848! The mark in the left rev. field is exaggerated by my lighting setup, and barely noticeable in hand. I'll post the grade tomorrow evening. Thanks! Kaz

halo look around the stars always makes me think buffed up.

how else does one lose luster around the star and rim and not all
the luster on the opposite side? too much detail, not enough luster.
luster was taken away on purpose.

so net xf40 i suppose. retoned.

Wow. It makes me think maybe they netted it down for the couple of prominent scratches. From here, it appears to be a superb coin for the grade in terms of detail and remaining luster. It's a beautiful seated dollar.

I think the XF grade is reasonable. there are some hairlines in the fields, my lighting setup made a couple of them stand out, but they are actually rather unobtrusive. The only luster left is around the stars and lettering, and within the crevices of the devices. No major hits in the fields, though, and it has an even light gray tone to it. Call me a happy camper.

I agree with the XF-45 grade. If you can see the flat spot on the breasts of liberty, it almost always will be graded by PCGS at XF, AU50 at most. Also, the reverse isn't strong enough to pull it up to AU imho, on most AU coins the reverse will look mint state.

Nice looking XF-45 though! Looks just like it should.

I think without the big hits up and down the arm, the coin might have had a chance at 50...

Edit: Still a very nice coin, IMO!

Don't know the series. Would have guessed AU50 or AU53...probably 53.
