A question on PSA review submissions!

Hi.. I have 50 cards that I want to send in on the review special... with the half price special $4 seems like a great deal! My question is, "Does psa ever bump a card down?" Every card I am sending in is a psa 9 and I definitely don't want any to drop down a grade... Thanks for all replies I get!

  • If I am reading your question right you are looking to do a crossover, or a review of an existing PSA Holder? If so than the following are my thoughts...

Just put MINIMUM grade requirement on EACH CARD that you want to make sure stays a 9. If they don't think it will grade to a 9 by a simple examine in the holder it's in; they won't crack it out. Chances of everything being a 9 are slim. So be willing to throw some money at it (if it doesn't meet the minimum grade you put on the form, you still owe the $$$)

I'm sure more experienced members will chime in....

    Good Luck

    Ken

PS might want to scan some of the cards and post on the board for some thoughts on grades...

I think your heart's in the right spot, but I have to say I think that's a terrible idea. As a rule, it's always bad policy to listen to the advice of people who know less than you do-- and in the case of 'will this bump?' queries, the people who respond know far, far less about the card than the person making the request. Of course, this assumes that the original poster has a grip on PSA grading standards.

Depends on the cards you're reviewing. It also depends on what you want to do with them if they do bump - do you want to keep them or sell them? Some will have a huge payoff bumping to a 10, while others may just go from a $5 to a $10 card. If you're talking about '88 Fleer Mark McGwires, for instance, I wouldn't bother.

Based on what I've seen from others and my own experience, out of 50 PSA 9s, you can expect that 8 (give or take) will bump to 10 upon review. I'm speaking of cards from 1970s and up.
60s and earlier I have no experience with, but I'm guessing the success rate is much lower going from PSA 9 to 10.
50 cards at $4 apiece will cost you $200 plus shipping
You'll have to decide if the $ increase (or the increase in value to your own personal collection) on 8-10 cards is worth the $200+.

Edit: Additionally, I haven't noticed a difference between the frequency of 9 to 10 bumps, and half grade bumps at lower grades. Even though 9 to 10 is a full grade increase, it seems to occur at the same frequency as say, 8 to 8.5 or other half grade steps.
