So, I see this tweet last week...

<< <i>MELLOWJOHNNYS: Hey Austin @lancearmstrong will be signing copies of Comeback 2.0 Wed Dec. 16 at 6pm at Mellow Johnnys see you there!
4:57 PM Dec 11th from TweetDeck >>

For those that don't know, MJ is Lance's shop in ATX. Anyway, since it's about a 2.5 hour drive from door to door (with a little speeding), figured I should check it out. I call up the shop to get more specifics. Will he only sign his book (yes), what about the special edition only available at Radio Shack (yes), is there a maximum of signed books (only one per customer), and will the line be capped (he plans to be there most of the night but we encourage you to get here as early as possible).
So on Tuesday, decided that I'll head out around 2:30 and would have plenty of time. Just in case, during lunch I ran by The Shack and picked up Special Edition of Comeback 2.0. Figured if I didn't go, at least I got a cool book with a lot of pretty pictures.

But then I saw this:
<< <i>MELLOWJOHNNYS: Hey Book signing fans, thanks to Book People there will be 500 copies for sale, if you already have copy of Comeback 2.0 come on too
3:56 PM Dec 15th from TweetDeck >>
So of course, I called them up again just to double check if anything else had changed. He still planned to stick around until everyone got a sig and yes, he still would sign The Shack version.
Well, yesterday morning I see this:
<< <i>MELLOWJOHNNYS: Due to overwhelming response and time constraints Lance will only be able to sign Comeback 2.0 copies purchased here, sorry for late change
about 20 hours ago from TweetDeck >>
Do what now?!?!
So I called them up again and they apologized for the last minute change. Yes, it's now limited to 500 sigs it's been moved up to 5:30 because he had to head out for training camp.
Oh fudge!
Around noon, left work, hopped into my car, and started to haul arse. While I do not condone speeding (

So I pull up to MJs about 2:15, which is 3:15 hours before his signing, and I see probably 25 to 50 people walking inside. Uh oh..
More later....

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

<< <i>including a stop in La Grange for gas >>
Yeah, gas sure.
Rumour spreadin' a-'round in that Texas town
'bout that shack outside La Grange
and you know what I'm talkin' about.
Just let me know if you wanna go
to that home out on the range.
They gotta lotta nice girls ah.
Have mercy.
A haw, haw, haw, haw, a haw.
A haw, haw, haw.
Well, I hear it's fine if you got the time
and the ten to get yourself in.
A hmm, hmm.
And I hear it's tight most ev'ry night,
but now I might be mistaken.
hmm, hmm, hmm.
Ah have mercy.
Juan Pelota.. Get it?!?
Anyway, the line starts to get longer and longer and longer and longer....
And by this point, probably 400 people deep, not including the 100 or so up front.
So my group is called (was #24
That's my book, beeeeyatch!!
But seriously, he chit chatted for a minute and shook my hand. Regardless of what you may have heard (arrogant, doesn't give a flip about fans, etc), he was nothing but polite and friendly with me. Probably helped that I was one of the first 30 but that's beside the point
Yes, I'll admit that my hand was shaking like a leaf.
And before anyone asks, no, it's not for sale.. Well, maybe for a couple billion but that's about it.
The end.
Congrats though man, that's awesome! And MJ's is a pretty cool bike shop.
Do you think it will end up in a frame? If so I'd like to see it again.
Nice
Congrats...

1 ball? lol
Nice thread! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Oh, there are pics. Disregard prior statement.
How about this, this thread is worthless without Cheryl Crow.
Oh, they are no longer together. Disregard prior statement.
OK, how about this, all things pertaining to Texas is worthless until Jan. 8, and then that is only true if UT loses to UA!
I knew that I could work in a Alabama angle no matter how off topic it is!
Roll Tide Roll!!!
BTW, nice pics and good read.
Thanx for taking the time to post some pics with the story - very nice - and interesting sig!
I saw him on TV a while back - Crow had taken his car and had it restored - I want to say it was Chip Foose on "Overhaulin" who do the work. If she foot the bill - I guess she might have buyer regrets on that one!
Thanx for sharin

But seriously, for all that he's done outside of cycling and regardless of what you may think of him (womanizer, steroid abuser, ahole); think his positives more than outweigh his negatives. No one is perfect, so that's that.
Yeah, know I sound like a giddy little school girl but at least I'm man enough to admit it, right?!?!
As for doing something with his signature, I'm really not sure. The photographer, Liz Krutz, signed it as well, so the appeal went down a notch. So, who knows what I'll eventually do. Will gladly listen to any suggestions..
<< <i>Nice auto. That bike shop looks pretty cool also. Much bigger then any here. >>
Dude, the shop is absolutely mind blowing. Posted some shop pics in my LIVESTRONG Challenge thread but will gladly post them again:

<< <i>I was pooping in my pants while waiting for Lance. Seriously, when I shook his hand (which absolutely blew me away), I couldn't put more than two coherent words together. >>
You kidding? I felt like that when I had Boog Powell sign my ticket this year at his BBQ Stand at Oriole Park! If I ever met Cal Ripken Jr., I'd be like that fainter in the Holiday Inn Express commercial! lol

It's really weird...
I chilled with Nolan Ryan for an entire game earlier this year, hung out with Earl at a recent lunch, and even had drinks with George Brett. Don't get me wrong, thought it was VERY cool to be in that position and pick their brains but can't even compare being next to Lance.
Whenever I'm down and think there's no way to get back up, I'm reminded of his motivational speech in the blockbuster Dodgeball:
<< <i>Quit? You know, once I was thinking about quitting when I was diagnosed with brain, lung and testicular cancer, all at the same time. But with the love and support of my friends and family, I got back on the bike and I won the Tour de France five times in a row. But I'm sure you have a good reason to quit. So what are you dying from that's keeping you from the finals? >>

I had that in mind when writing the title.
As a side note, the shop has additional AUTOGRAPHED books for sale. Yes, you read that correctly. You can buy a signed copy from the comfort of your own home; rather than driving 2 hours, across the state, breaking/bending a few laws, and stand in line for several hours. Just click this link (but I'm not bitter).
<< <i>Description
Lance's newest book, "Comeback 2.0: Up Close and Personal." Signed by Lance at the December 16th book signing at Mellow Johnny's. >>
I checked with the shop and it's legit (I even bought two more copies). All proceeds go to LIVESTRONG and for even more incentive, free shipping.
Think of it this way, you're paying $28 for Lance's signature and the money is going to a great cause.
Edited to add: I took advantage of their free shipping last week. Bought a long sleeve MJ jersey last Saturday afternoon. It was in my office Tuesday morning.
If you do purchase an autographed book, I have only one request. Please, for all that's good in the world, do not toss it on eBay to make some quick $$. The only exception would be to donate the sale to LIVESTRONG.
I know business is business but please don't.
Thanks in advance.

<< <i>We are sold out of the signed Comeback 2.0 book. >>
I knew they wouldn't last at $28. Hope some of you, with good intentions, picked one up.
Thanks for posting.
(I'll see if I can add a Lance sig to your thread... Are you a LeMond fan or just a more recent cycling fan? Maybe we should start a cycling auto / collector thread - it might be unique for this board.)

While I think Greg today is a bitter old duush, he was still the man.
So wait, they make cycling cards? Oh crud.... I'm going to get into trouble, aren't I?
Edited to add: Yup, vintage too. My wallet hates you right now.

<< <i>Is Elizabeth Kreutz hot? >>
Since I'm not one to judge, I'll say this... She has a great eye for photography and is really sweet.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.
<< <i>Showing up to that signing in full bike racing gear is like wearing the t-shirt of the band you are seeing in concert. Don't be that guy. >>
That's comparing apples to oranges. Full gear would be like this:
That would be like showing up at a concert not only wearing the t-shirt but also bringing an instrument, groupies, and your rodie.
PS - I got my two additional books Tuesday morning
