1909 Philippines Peso

? on a Philippine Peso - do the 1909 pesos come with die rust around the bottom half of the shield on the reverse?

I'm still working on this gentleman's hoard and the peso he has has a lot of raised dots/stuff on the reverse as well as shelf doubling in the letters.

My specialty, No they do not. The Coin probably is sea salvaged (has the look) from the WWII manila bay dumping of the philippine treasury silver, which backed the currency. We dumped boxes of silver taken out on barges into the bay to keep it out of the hands of Japanese as the american fort Corregidor was encircled and on the verge of surrender, which eventually did. Many of the silver pesos were eventually recovered in more that several salvor operations. Many have this look , bottom of the bay was gunked with oil and other harbor fuel chemical/ sludge.

Krueger is right, the sea salvaged coins often have that dark toning also.

Thanks for the information! I wondered if it was sea salvaged but I have never seen one before so I could not know for certain.
