Picked up a nice original 1881-0 eagle in a PCGS OGH

Was at one of the local B&M's today when I noticed they had a bunch of PCGS-OGH New Orleans $10 Gold pieces: 1844-0, 1846-0, 1853-0, 1880-0 and 1881-0. These were all XF-40 coins except for the 1881-0 which was a 45 with flashy luster under dirty original fields. I asked to see the 1880-0 and 1881-0 then inquired about prices, he wanted $760 for the 1880-0 and $840 for the 1881-0 so i purchased the 1881-0 as I felt it would upgrade to at least AU-50 and possibly 53 if resubmitted.
Do you guys think the 1880-0 at $760 for a 40 which has a good shot at 45 if resubmitted would be worth purchasing too???

At that price, you have more upside than downside (edited to add: though not an exciting amount). So if you think there's better than a 50% chance of an upgrade the first try, I'd say go for it.
of how you grade to make a call on the second.
sorry i am not much help.

I know you guys have to teach me how to take and post good pictures, I am clueless on how to do this and really marvel at how good some of your pictures are here.

<< <i>I would go back and look at afew others especially the 1846-o and the 1880-o >>
I think I'll do that and ask the price on the 1846-0 next time. i do know that then 1846-0 is not a 1846/5-0 as i checked for it.

<< <i>I think the 1846-O is just under appreciated in a decent original state- 45 and higher and if this one has the look it might just be worth a second look >>
Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing, you must collect branch mint Gold coins???
I also think the whole 46-O & 46/5-O (which is not really an overdate) business is overrated.
By the way I replied to your PM.

<< <i>congrats- post pictures as time permits >>
Thanks now can some of you expert photographers explain how you take such great pictures and post them here, I am an idiot when it comes to stuff like that.
<< <i>Sounds like you did well. There are some very low mintages coins in the group. Congrats! >>
Thanks, yeah the 1880-0 and 1881-0 have low mintages of only 9,200 and 8,350 in fact Doug Winter really likes the 1880-1883 run of New Orleans Eagles in original crusty condition. I'm not sure if these coins are in the condition he would recommend which would probably be AU or higher but I am fairly confident the 1881-0 will upgrade to at least AU-50 or 53 and the other 2 coins IMHO are 45's.
I like RYK's idea of keeping them in the PCGS-OGH's though so maybe I will do that for now, besides if the coins appear nice for the grade PCGS "Rattler" and Old Green Holder coins usually sell above published prices for that grade at auction.
