Prayers please- update as of 12/23

Hello, many of you don't know me too well. Or at all. Just asking for some board karma if possible. My wife slipped on our icy sidewalk yesterday while letting the dog out to do her thing and fell back and smacked the back of her head on the cement. She was knocked out for 10 minutes with no one around to see/hear her. She was lying on the ground and it was single digits out. When she came to, she could see her arms and legs, but nothing was moving. She then worked up the strength to pull herself into the house and call 911. Somehow she tweaked both her shoulders. We went to the ER twice last night...the first time was a joke. Too busy and she wasn't a priority. Thanks Mayo Clinic!!! They did a CT scan which was ok and xrayed her left shoulder (even though both hurt) and found no breaks. They sent her home at 9 last night, with some pain pills and anxiety pills and told her she could go to work today. She couldn't sleep due to the pain and we went back to the ER at 12 this morning. They kept her until 4:30 this morning and the morphine was working for a bit, then she'd wake up in excruciating pain again. They admitted her to the hospital after release from the ER the second time and is under going more tests and stronger pain meds. She is still hurting and it hurts me to see her in such pain. I got 45 minutes sleep then reported for work today as our financial auditors are here this week and as the CFO, I need to be here. Our kids (2 1/2 and 4 months) are with daycare and g-ma respectively. Please pray for her, me and our kids who are out of sorts in this time if you can find it in your hearts. Thanks and God bless.

God bless! That's is the scary type of thing that could happen to anyone. I have both of my Grandmothers close by well into their 80's and I am so worried about them in a slip and fall situation like that.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I also know all too well when it comes to head injuries, and it does take time. Stay positive, and keep the faith for you and your kids. Also, you must remember to take care of yourself during this tough time. Be sure to eat and sleep when you can, because in times like this, one often forgets to take care of themselves. You must keep yourself healthy in order to be a strong enough support for your kids and your wife. Keep us posted when you have the time, and thank you for sharing this with us.

  • Prayers sent for her. I hope she recovers quikly and you and your family have a happy Christmas.

  • Sorry to hear about this unfortunate accident. The same exact thing happened to my father many years ago when he was taking a dog for a walk for an elderly neighbor. I remember the tremendous pain he went through in his back. I hope your wife's pain eases very quickly and she makes a full and speedy recovery.

Our family will keep you and yours in our thoughts and prayers and hope that your wife is home with you and your children very soon.

    Tony(AN ANGEL WATCHES OVER ME)
  • Update for today.

She spent most of yesterday in the trauma wing of the hospital. They FINALLY brought in a sling for her shoulder 11 hours after it was asked for. That helped some. She was released to go home last night at 6.

The trauma doctor said they classified her with a severe concussion because she was unconscious for a time. The first ER doctor said she didn't have a concussion because she wasn't unconscious for a long enough time. The trauma doctor gave her a muscle relaxer prescription last night. The ER doctor didn't give her this, but prescribed an anxiety relaxer. The trauma doctor said she can't go to work the rest of the week. The ER doctor said she could go back to work the next day. So my conclusion is that the ER doctor either needs to go back to med school, or resign. The head isn't what's hurting her. It's the shoulders. Since all the tests came back negative (CT scan showed no blood and xrays showed no breaks), they think what happened is that she torn some muscles in the fall which is causing the shoulders to hurt so much. The rotator cuff is not torn, but has some damage around it.

She is at home today resting and popping meds to keep up with the pain. G-ma has the baby for another night to allow us (and especially me) some sleep. The 2 1/2 year old is at daycare today, but struggled when getting her out the door wondering why she couldn't stay home with mommy.

I got some sleep last night but feel like crap today. And the auditors aren't helping things much.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers and IMs.
