Christmas Spirit Spam II ... Last year's total doubled... bids/sales tally = $1771.26

We did this last year and raised $782.81, helping out 15 different charities. So, I figured it was worth trying to do again this year and to see if we can duplicate or even exceed that result. (Here's a link to last year's thread.)

The idea is you pick something out to sell on eBay (or wherever, really) and give the proceeds to a charity of your choice. You post in this thread a scan of the card (or other item), a link to the auction, and, if you'd like, a link to the charity you'll be donating to. Obviously, this is all done on the honor system, and actually getting the proceeds to the charities is up to the individual sellers. (Be aware that eBay has strict policies about discussing charities in listings, so check those before you choose to do so.) If you don't have anything to sell, bid on someone else's auction. image

Here's the card I'm selling, and I'll again be donating the proceeds to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This card was actually donated to me a few years back by another board member who, alas, doesn't show up around these parts anymore. I've loved having it in my collection, but it seems the right choice for this. Here's a link to my auction.

I've been waiting for this thread, thanks Bryon.

My auction is for a 1972 Topps #37 Carl Yastrzemski PSA 8. Just like last year I will donate the final price of the auction, and match it so the charity gets double the final price.

Once again my charity is The Lupus Foundation of America

Edited to add the auction link.

Great idea. Been too busy to sell on ebay lately, so I'll put this up for sale here for a bargain price...$375 - all of which I will donate to my second favorite charity - Project Joy (who help traumatized kids). ( I am CEO at another 501c3 so, they are my #1 image )

If you want this centered Mantle at a great price and want to help kids - just pm me. Great idea Bryon!

UPDATE: SOLD! One of our board members bought this card a few minutes ago - thanks for the generous purchase. I've forwarded the funds to Project Joy via their website paypal link. They'll use it to help kids get over difficult situations.

The charity that I will be donating all proceeds to is womansplace. They help victims of domestic violence. Thank you for looking.

Come on everybody, find a card to auction or sell here directly and join in the spirit of giving.

  • It's not a 7 or an 8 but it is a nice Mick card... 5 people are watching so it should sell. This is my contribution... will donate the funds to my local education foundation. Tinton Falls Foundation for Excellence in Education...

    Edited to add:
Like some others have mentioned; I will double the contribution as well. I'm also adding the 1954 Topps Ted Williams #250 PSA Graded 1 auction I have running. I didn't have anyone tracking it until last night and now there are a few watchers so I think it will sell.

    Ted Williams

The Mick has a $55 opening bid so that's at least a $110 to charity as of this morning....

    Bumping off Page 2.

Monday's not a great day to start an auction, I know, but I'm hoping more people... a lot more people.... join in. Tomorrow's Tuesday, though, and a great day to start a 5-day auction. Or you could just sell something here. I'm sure many of you are like me and have a number of half-forgotten $7-$15 cards sitting in a box somewhere that haven't seen the light of day for months or years. Pull one out, sell it, and help a favorite charity.
  • Well, having just gotten back into the whole graded card thing, I dont have much to pony up, but here is my contribution.

Ill double the final price, wanted to keep the money local, my employer works with Charity each year, really a great bunch of volunteers.

I'm in. Here's a 1951 Topps Red Back Early Wynn PSA 6. 100% of proceeds to benefit The Epilepsy Foundation. My son had his first seizure four years ago at the age of six. We are fortunate that they only occur every six months or so...many suffer them more frequently and medication does not help everyone. Through this process we have found that very little is known about the human mind and what causes seizures so little donations like this can make a difference.

Many thanks to those who've joined in. Also wanted to mention another option to get involved.... Sell someone the right to choose your avatar for say, a month, 6 months... or even longer. I once purchased the rights to pick stown's avatar for a month to help out with his favorite charity. (I was actually fairly merciful about it... but not all that kind, either.)

OK guys/gals ... I'm going to do something different. As many of you know, I have been running Marathons and racing Triathlons to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in honor of my daughter, Francesca. In October I ran The Marine Corps Marathon and raised $4,000.00, thanks to many generous members on this board. (I believe I raised over $600.00 from board members.)

Well, I have signed up for the Vancouver Marathon in May, 2010 and want to raise at least $5,000.00. Below are four cards that I will give (one each) to the first four members that make a donation of AT LEAST $50.00 to "LLS". (I know none of the cards are valued at $50.00 but I thought we would each be making a donation this way.)

CLICK HERE TO MAKE YOUR DONATION VIA CREDIT CARD. THANK YOU.

Please respond to this thread and also PM me and tell me which card you want. (Also include your name and addy in your PM.)

If this goes well I will add more cards.

    THANKS!

  • Both of my charity auctions( 1-Ted Williams and 2) Mickey Mantle) now have bids totaling $100 so that is at least $200 for the total (as I agreed to match the sales price). Four hours to go... hopefully we'll be able to push that donation up some more...

I took a shot at the 1954 PSA 1 Ted Williams. Would have liked it, but glad I lost because that means the charity got more. image

I've only got a little bit of time, but I'm going to try and list some things tonight here first and then on Ebay later. I'll try and find something higher end if I can.
My charity is the same as last years. Brethren Housing Association. My good friend is the CEO.

    They are now on Ebay.

  • Nick:

The scan as usual shows every imperfection in high detail; the card in hand looks much nicer than the scan. Thanks for the bid... Ted brought $126 to the foundation and Mickey Mantle brought $110 to them. (That's after my matching the sale). So total check going out tomorrow will be for $236.00.

Thanks for the bid... This was a great idea, and for anyone sitiing on the sidelines I have to tell you it does feel good!
    Merry Christmas

Add another ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS to the total.

A board member made a generous $100.00 donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. He asked that his name not be given and that the four cards remain available for others. THANK YOU!

Yep. We're well ahead of last year's total funds raised. (Wooohoo!) But, I was also hoping to see more participating sellers... Last year, we had 15. So far this year, we have 10. Can we find 6 more guys with even $5 cards to sell?

Excellent Mike, and I'm matching the final price, so the Lupus Foundation and I both thank you very much.

And thanks to everyone else who has listed something or bid on something. For those who haven't, there's still one week left so it isnt too late to find something to auction for the charity of your choice.

Trent, I just tried to change my shipping policy for you, but unfortunately since there are bids already I can not change them. If you happen to find a way to win it I will ship it to you anywhere you like.
