1935 S Peace dollar - 4 ray

What exactly does the designation "4 ray" indicate? Is this found on other peace dollars or only on the 1935 S?

The engraver added a fourth ray below the tail of the eagle to this 1935-S reverse die. The work was done by hand and was not part of the current design. No one knows why it was done. Nothing has been found in the archives (as yet) to explain the added ray.

The variety is readily available in all grades.
  • If you're indicating that finding a 4th ray coin is readily available then yes. The Vam 3 is NOT readily available.... 4 rays does not = Vam 3. The Vam 3 is a tough coin.
