HA's new book on Gobrecht Dollars....Does anyone know more?

I saw this advertised somewhere, but can't find it anymore. Does anyone have more details? Most importantly, when will it be available?

Finally found it, thanks. I will wait till the FUN show to get my copy. I am pretty sure they will be available there as well.

  • This is interesting. Coins that were previously thought to be restrikes are originals and vice versa.

It will be interesting to see how the authors' conclusions re. emmission sequences will compare to the other major Gobrecht dollar emmission sequence research project that's still being done. I wonder if there was collaboration between the two camps. If not, maybe there will be for the second edition. Anyone know?

Maybe an edition with Point / Counterpoint facing pages should be printed...?
  • Very nice - I need to pick up a copy. And, the Whitman Carson City book, too!

I got my copy today! very well done. I especially like reading about the 1836 Reeded Edge Gobrecht Dollar. This may be the first time the splashers in the Library Company of Philadelphia have been published.

Although authored by Mark Van Winkle, it is a compendium of articles by numerous researchers:

Elvira Clain-Stefanelli (from the 1991 ANA Centennial Anthology)
    R.W.Julian
    Michael Carboneau
    James Gray
    John Dannreuther
    Craig Sholley
Dr. Julius Korein (Who's collection is used to illustrate much of the book)
    Saul Teichman

This brings a lot of back-and-forth research blows and counter-blows into one place!

I wish some of the micro photos were done with a close-up camera rather than just stretching the images until they become slightly pixelated.

  • I will be getting my copy real soon, as it will be the most up-to-date reference for these intriguing issues.

The contributors listed cover both sides of the earlier disputes.
