"Sell Out: jmski52 buys last 2009 W $100 APE, A More Perfect Union"

renman95renman95 Posts: 7,037 ✭✭✭✭✭
A headline that will never happen. Maybe in some parallel universe.

The coin is on a wait list, basically sold out in about a week. By whom? Definitely not by comrade jmski. image

It still puzzles me. Was the 5-coin limit raised? No, I still see it there. If every order was for 5 coins that would be 1,600 orders at nearly $9,000 per order.

Renski, you absolutely must be clairvoyant. I bought (1) of the 1 oz. Proof Plats for my collection at the last minute, and they were sold out the next time I looked.

I'm still not sure why I bought it. This whole episode has soured me on the series. I stopped collecting Proof Silver Eagles in '95 because of what Diehl did, and this is a close second.

I got my 2009 AGEs from Apmex today, and they are poorly made. Well, at least they are gold, and at least the Plat is platinum.

    tap, tap, tap............

I assume you are talking about the fractional gold eagles? What was wrong with them? We had a few with tiny strike-throughs in our rolls, but the strikes themselves were OK.

I didn't look at the 1/10ths, they might be ok - but the 1/2 ozers were mushy and had grease strike throughs in addition to some contact marks.

  • ahh 2012, y2k2, and maybe they are buying all this gold because the end is comming, and they can hang onto it just as some of the pompeyans were found doing in their end.

Apmex is screening your coins JMHO. MS 70s they know sell for a premium.

Renman although I swore off platinum I put myself on the waiting list also just to see what happens.

I thought that too with other shipments I've recieved, but my fractional AGE's from them appear to be good MS69/70 candidates.

I must confess that I bought one too when I heard the news of the 7,200 that sold in 4 days.....like a moth to a flame. A veritable sheeple, I am.

I think I bought the one just before comrade jmski's.

    Baaaa. Baaaaa.

Then your backordered coin's ship date has moved from Dec. 24th to Dec. 26th, just like mine.image

Does anyone know when the Waitlist started?

I think that I placed my order around 11:00 AM or noon on Dec. 10th, and when I checked here a couple hours later, there was a wait list.

I thik I wuz rite comrade, you last out of door. Maybe door hit caboose on way out. No coin for you. One year.

For the most part, proof one-ounce Platinum Eagles are fetching over $1700, regardless of date. So there is a low perceived risk of buying the 2009 issue from the Mint at a comparable price. This may help explain the quick sellout.

My order is still backordered and the ship date has been moved another 2 days back to 12/28/09.

This is only the 11th scarcest 1 oz. Platinum Eagle. I don't see it as a key coin.

Right, this is the coin that no one wanted. No sense it makes.

I didn't "want" one, but I do collect so I was compelled to buy one.

I am wondering if new IRA money is going into the Modern Bullion Market, which includes the phenomenon of Proof AGEs doubling in price practically overnight.

I still like all of the 2008-W Plats, Gold Buffs and AGEs. They are soaring too.

Comrade jmski, did you get your plat? I have mine, sort of. It was sent 12-21 and arrived 12-24 however I am not in the US and won't be back until 6Jan. I hope it doesn't get sent back to W.

Renski, yes - I did receive my Plat. I don't know how long UPS will normally hold your package for you, but maybe you can notify them and use your tracking number to have them hold it for you until you return.

My life is complete. I have "A More Perfect Union". Frankly, I like the Gold Buffs, 2008-W Plats, and Gold Eagles much better.image

And on the back of the t-shirt reads "A More Perfect Union-without me"

But seriously, is there a flippers market out there(?)...haven't paid attention over the holidays.

I put myself on the waiting list on the last day they stopped taking orders. My backorder status went from 1/11/10 to 12/30/09. Not sure if that is a good sign. Could be they shipped them all out. I doubt I would get one.

Interesting, as I did the same and got mine on the 24th. They did surprise me by initially noting the 12/30 ship date and then QUICKLY charged my card. Glad now; though, as they are FS eligible....Sealed.

Good luck Collector, as they now seem to be starting to burn!
